Can\'t attach mower height check chains at front

I have been using a 4 foot rotary cutter with my B7500 (no position control). To avoid the occasional lapse when I lower the three point hitch too far and the mower scalps, I decided to order the check chains (mower height adjustment chains from SSB tractor) that have been recommended on this forum.

I have posted some details in the Kubota Owning Forum, but the bottom line is that the front slotted links that come with the chains cannot be attached to the mounting bracket and pin for the tractor top link.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across a better or different mounting point for the slotted links. (Perhaps the bolts which pass through the base of the fixed ROPS?) Has anyone used these bolts to mount the slotted links? Other ideas?

I would sure like to hear from other users who have used the height limiter chains with a different mounting point for the slotted links.

Thanks,
Dannyk

I don't use check chains, so don't have any suggestions on making them work. I've tried to think of a good place to hook chains up (I've got a similar tractor) but am coming up empty.

I do think it would be a bad idea to mess with the attachment for your ROPS, especially by connecting it to your rear implement.

Danny,

I have a B7100 that is the older model of your tractor with the same problems.

I remove my top link and pin and mount the top of the check chains where the top link was. No, I can't pick the deck completely off the ground, but I can raise it with the lower control arms and adjust the chain length.

Or, you could try putting your top link in the upper hole if you have the 3-hole top link adjustment like on the B7100, and put the top ends of your check chains in the bottom hole using another top link pin.

Maybe it all will fit.

Good Luck.

Rick,

Just curious. Why did you remove the top link completely instead of mounting it in the lower hole? Will that not work with the check chains in the upper hole?

Re: Can\'t attach mower height check chains at fron

I just removed the front top link pin and put a longer pin in there and hung the chains on the ends of the longer pin. I actually took a couple of pieces of flat iron stock and drilled a pin sized hole in one end and a hole in the other end to hook the chain to with a screw link. Have used them this way for years. I use them to support an 1800 lb counterbalance weight with on my 3 point. It takes the strain off of the lift mechanism.

slowrev,

Well, I just learned what a screwlink is! I'll have to see if your method will work on my Kubota B7500. There are only two mounting holes in the top link bracket, and it would be necessary to use the top hole to have any chance of clearing the PTO shield. The problem is that the mounting bolts for the two-hole bracket interfere with mounting anything on the pin outside of the bracket.
