After reading many articles on grapple size, I'm as confused as ever. I'm not sure my tractor (l 34 ) can handle anything larger than 60 inches. I questions the lift capacity of the tractor in relation to the weight of the grapple. Do grapples weight more than an original bucket? I need some information from a user, more than the hype I get from the manufacture. I will be using the grapple in the clearing of trees in the Colorado Mountains where bark beetle has killed the majority of the trees. We have a sawmill close and we plan to have some of the logs made into usable lumber. Thanks.

Sizing a grapple depends somewhat on the weight of the grapple. A grapple usually weighs more than a bucket. I would go with something like this.

I had an M7040, and had a single overhead claw, 48". It did everything I wanted and did it very well. I did NOT want anything bigger do to weight etc, and there wasn't anything I come across that I could not pick up with it.

How well did it do with that big old stump . I have yet to get me a grapple yet for my new 7040 . Was you ballast on the back with it couldn't tell in the pics . Am I being retarded thinking about a 72" grapple .

This is about a 24 inch log so you can see what I have here. This works well on my L3200. IMG_4836.jpg

I did a lot of research before I bought the grapple. I wanted to do uprooting of trees with it besides picking up things. The 48" I think allows you to better "root" with it, a larger width defeats that. I never found anything that the 48" wouldn't work on, the limitation was in the tractor, not the grapple. I was extremely pleased with it, and thankful I did not go any bigger than 48". I think many do think bigger is better, but I'm of the school that it is not.

That stump had the front tires near flat although the pic doesn't show that, I had fluid in the rear tires...without any fluid it would have pulled the rear tires off the ground. Most of the time I had a 3pt 7ft mower on the back to compensate for weight with whatever I had in the grapple.

This proved to be my experience with my 48" also.

If you have quick attach, our 54"(349 pounds) or 60" Wicked Grapple(382 pounds) would be ideal for your L34.
Our innovative Wicked Grapples are extremely strong and will make your grappling chores a breeze!!
They ship free to a business or supporting freight terminal within 1,000 miles of Newton, NC. If you're outside the free shipping zone, freight is generally very reasonable.
