Bush Hogs - Pull Type or Lift type

Nwe to Bushogging....
Have a Mahindra 4025 - 2wheel drive tractor...
As I am looking to buy a Bush Hog, I am seeing there are obviously lots to choose from. I have learned there are Pull Type and Fift Type Bush Hogs...
What does this mean and Why does it matter...
We are bushogging a bout 25 acres, mostly flat land with few heavy growth areas...the grass is at full hieght now , So we would like your feed back ...
I see standard, Medium and Heavy duty.
I'am sure common sense prevails with what and Why for each....but all suggestions welcomed.

I have a "lift" type and like it. I have never had a pull behind but I would think it wouldn't be as easy to maneuver since I do a lot of backing into small areas while mowing. The pull type is good if you have a real heavy cutter, but there will be more driveline flex as you are turning. I like the extra weight though because I also have 2wd with turf tires, and I can lift the cutter if I lose traction. Maybe a 2-point hitch hookup would be a good compromise, if they even make them anymore. Then again, if you leave the top link off, you essentially have a 2 point hitch.

Do you have an Operator's Manual? Your make and model states 41-HP-Engine and 31-Hp-PTO. I have the lift type. This way, one can travel easier on roadways, if the need arises. The better, but heavier rotary mowere, are made of heavier guage steel. Your Operator's Manual should indicate the weight and width that is recommended for your tractor. BTW, welcome aboard.

I would recommend a lift type for your tractor. A Bushhog SQ172 would be a good match for your machine and listed task.

We have both and I believe most people will find a 3PH one works better for them. A pull type works better for us in some situations, but it is a 10', anything smaller and we would go with 3PH and in fact have a 3PH 10', but use the pull type more often.

If you are mowing grass at an airport then pull type is great. If you are cleaning up old fence row, fire/logging trails then you will enjoy a lift type.

Size wise I find one foot less than max size the tractor can handle works out well. A lift type cutter that keeps the front end off the ground a lot is not safe to use.

Several years ago I bought a Bush Hog 920 for my JD2555 (50hp PTO). I’m am mowing unimproved fields of grass and weeds. Works phenomenally well and I can mow right along. Just replaced the blades this fall for the first time. My 920 is a semi-mount and I love it. Seems to dampen the jarring associated with unevenness of the ground.
