I bought a woodmaxx 8" hydraulic chipper a few months ago. So far I've put 23 hours on the chipper. I run it using my b3030 with 23 hp at the pto and am quite impressed with the performance of the chipper. I mostly chip pine and have chipped up to 5" - 6" diameter pine trunks/branches. Pretty good performance for my relatively low hp tractor.

I honed the blades at 20 hours since some of the wood is a little dirty from the skidder that took down most of the pines. The blades were still sharp except for the last inch or so which were slightly rounded. I'll probably reverse the blades the next time I sharped them.

I chipped some oak tree branches this weekend which were 10 feet long and about 3" - 4" wide at the butt end. It was really nice not having to trim the branches
to fit into the chipper. Made the work go fast.

Here are a couple pics:

Thanks for your post. I have a B7800 (22HP at PTO) and it's good to know the WM-8H could be a realistic option. I have a ton of balsam fir 6" and less to chip. I had come across that model as a possibility in my research, but it's nice to hear from someone with real world experience.

That is impressive that your smaller tractor handles that chipper. Do you have the speed sensor on the chipper, that slows down the feed until the flywheel gets back up to speed? How do you like the hydro feed? I am very happy I held out for a hydraulic feed chipper!

Great pics, I love the Wheelhorse tractor/trailer setup too!

The chipper has a hydraulic flow restrictor knob that allows the feed rate to be slowed down. I manually slow down the feed rate when chipping 5"+ pieces of pine. I wouldn't be able to chip such large pieces with a manual feed chipper.

The Wheelhorse is a 1978 C-81 8 speed tractor that belonged to be my Grandfather. No hydraulics, but the low range transmission is nice for going over rough ground.

I have a B3300SU & I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the WoodMaxx WM-8H too. My tractor is only slightly larger than yours vic4news (I'm over in West Chesterfield, NH - not far from you) so I'm very pleased to hear how well it performs for you!

We had our Woodmaxx since the early spring. It's the WM8H model. I would highly recommend to anyone considering the Woodmaxx to get the hydraulic feed. It makes it so much easier when feeding larger limbs. You can slow down the feed if the tractor starts to bog down, even back it out if anything grits in a bind. We really can't say anything but good things about the Woodmaxx chipper. For the money I don't think there is anything out there that compares.
