Driveway SCRAPER or Driveway GRADER ?

After using a landplane for awhile, the jury's still out for me on the whole idea in general. Although the landplane requires less operator input, I can run box blade and get the same results. Actually, I think a landplane would work fine with just one centered / angled blade.

Not to argue with you, (well maybe, no not really), but I can get the same results also, but not nearly as fast. Are you talking about grading or maintaining a road? The double blades take care of wash boarding in a road, where as with only a single blade, while it probably would work to get rid of the wash board, twin blades do it that much faster.

It seems like some of the landplanes with multiple blades (most of them?) are also relying on the blades as structural members. There is no other support on the bottom portion of the landplane, towards the back, aside from the blades.

On my LPGBs, the blades are fastened to 5/8" x 6" angle. I don't think that there needs to be anything else, not with mine anyway.

I agree that for washboard, the double blade is probably a plus. In fact, I'll take your word for it. We don't really get that around here, but being from the So Cal Acton area I do understand. (I get your dirt ).

Around here with our clay (calling it dirt is questionable) and limestone road base, potholes are the real problem. The ground pumps and holds water in spots and then sinks below the road. Dragging a landplane up and down the driveway just fills up the holes with loose material, makes it look pretty and then the potholes return in the same spot a few weeks or months later. For re-grading a road here, rippers and a box blade work faster and better for me.

What do I know...I'm an old skiploader hand...so shoot me. :laughing:

I'm going to grade out a couple of select fill pads and FORCE myself to use the landplane (with blades set flush) instead of the box blade to spin 'em out. I'll get back to you on my opinion.

That's what I was referring to, as far as adding structural stability. Meaning that the blades being there, are what add to the structural stability, because without the blades, there would be no need for the angle iron it's bolted to.
I should have explained it better, I'm not too good at doing that :laughing:

Hey gang, I know the whole drievway scraper discussion has been leveled off quite a bit :laughing: BUT I havent seen anyone suggest something like the Agritek scraper. I have a few driveways and two small parking lots that would need leveled. My personal driveway doesnt pothole but with the rain I get a little washout in certain places. BUT I do have two driveways that tend to pothole get a little uneven. I typically will crown the driveways by angling my 3pt scraper blade to the center then grab a higher gear with the blade straight across and let the blade ride up. It does a pretty good job but it tends to not crown out far enough to get the water off the drive.

I like the landpride driveway grader but I dont like that the spill off is both on the one side, and that is where I like the Agritek style driveway scraper. They are both priced about the same only but the Agritek is 72", 96" and the LandPride is 72",84", 96"

When I bought my land plane, I had to deal with deep pot holes. I bought the Land Pride because it had the rippers so I can rip down as deep as I need.



For quick touch ups, like I am going to do this weekend, I leave the rippers up.

The scarifiers give me ability to rip up like a box blade, and the plane gives me the speed, control, and ease of use that I was looking for.
I really enjoy working with this tool.

I don't have rippers on either of mine but agree that having them on a landplane would be a big plus.

The BEFCO has an inner frame that's adjustable. The blades mount to the inner frame and the whole thing can be moved up and down. The outer frame is made up of the sides, the cross members, and the 3pt mounts. The front cross member is extra heavy as it also holds the rippers. I think the Woods and Land Pride also are like this.
