Alright guys here is the deal. I am looking at a BH 296 for $2800 and a LMC HD bushhog, for $2,000. That's 40% more for that math wizards out there ;). Specification wise they are nearly identical, heavy duty by most's standards. ~130+ gearboxes, similar in gauge materials used, class II hitches, assembled in the USA etc etc.
Can anyone tell me why I should go with the BH, other than its more widely known. The guys down the road at LMC are proud if their cutter as well and boast that it will stack up. I don't know for sure but they will probably guarantee it.
For the $800 I save I can buy a landscape rake and grader from LMC. For what it's worth I have an HD LMC disc and its a bulletproof as anything else.

YEa, but the LMC is only 29% cheaper than the bushhog;)

IMO, it would be a no-brainer. Get the LMC and support your local business, and get more attachemnts to boot.

I ended up going with the LMC cutter and got it for $2K out the door. The one thing I found odd about their HD cutters is the lack of a stump jumper. All other models had them except for the HDs. I asked them whay and they said the stump jumper pans wouldn't hold up (am assuming they ordered theirs off the shelf). Anyway the "carrier" is 3/4 steel so it should hold up fine.
I had a few jobs that afternoon and put it to work immediatly. It cut down 2-3" willows, wild pears, sumac, and mimosas with ease, no noice or excessive vibration at all.
So far I am really happy with the cutter. It still leaves rooster tails though which tick me off, but I haven found a cutter that doesn't yet.
