Default whats missing here ? PTO post hole auger Questions, lots of pics

I picked up this auger attachment from the guy I got the tractor from and he supposedly used it to put in a bunch of fence posts, he's old and doesn't remember how it was hooked up, and I'm new to the tractor and implement game.....I don't know the manufacturer of the auger, but it appears the PTO shaft is missing a 1 1/4 square bar or some sort ......the tractor has the kubota 6 spline on the PTO and the distance between them is approx 26 inches. would this be a 2 piece PTO shaft ?? , would that be safe to spin with them joined half way ??

the main question.....what do I need to make this work?

    some pics for reference
    .

    .
the square shaft ? measures approximately 1 1/4 inches ?? is this correct ??

    .
distance from PTO to end of shaft now about 26 inches

Well just as you said, you need the other 1/2 of the PTO shaft.. Yes All PTO shafts are 2 piece shafts. They have to be so as you move up and down they can telescope in and out. Is it safe without a guard... Well.... Not as safe as it would be with a guard, and the safety chains on the guard properly secured at each end.. BUT, don't touch the shaft, or allow any loose clothing to get near it. In fact stay the "heck" away from the whole spinning apparatus completely. Operate the Auger from the seat. If you need a spotter make sure they stay away from it too. Don't be pushing down on it with your hands. etc. Not saying people don't do these things... just saying that getting caught in a PTO shaft can really make a mess.. Not pretty.

By the way that other 1/2 of the Missing PTO shaft is probably closer to 36 inches long. You must have a fair amount of the one shaft inside of the other to keep from twisting it off.

Look first in the previous owner's barn.

I don't know of any place other than a machine shop to get half a new PTO shaft. They can custom make one from measurements for probably the price of a new complete one from a farm supply store.

Go to Everything Attachments and let them talk you thru it to get the correct length etc. You may pay a few bucks more but their customer service will be worth it. You should also get some shear pins.

When you get it all together check your gearbox oil (80/90) and grease fittings.

If you go to the TSC store they have complete drive shafts there they are usually in the isle with the hydraulic hoses. I don't mean that you need to buy one there just go and look at what they have and familiarize yourself with what they look like. There is no reason why the people at TSC wouldn't know what you are looking for you just talked to the wrong person. But like I said just look at the ones they have so you can understand what you are looking at. There are several different types of shafts not all of them are square like yours so don't let that throw you off, and the ones at TSC will have guards/shields on them they are usually black I think they have some yellow ones also. After you have an idea of what you are looking for you will be better off, but you will probably need to go to a real tractor store (dealer) to get what you need. The only square ones I have seem at TSC are pieces and parts, like a blank square shaft and a u-joint end that needs attached. This probably isn't much help sorry!
