Leonz, thanks for the reply.

I gave it a once over again. I will have to figure out the the vibration. Yes the mounts for the rear roller are gone but I fab up a lot of stuff and it won't be an issue making new ones. I thought I would make the rear roller as well and just use stock bearings and sizes from a tractor/farm store. As for the rear guard, it is there, just rusted trough on one end, and I was thinking of removing it and maybe making a new one piece hinged guard with a hydraulic cylinder to open and close it. I see a lot of people, even with new ones with this feature. I'm not sure why since I don't have much experience with a flail?

Hey Bubbacuse,

I am wating for my new Flailmaster catalog,
but they should have the rear mounts and rear
roller for your new iron.

Both the flail rotor bearings and the rear roller bearings
have to be the sealed type on one side.

The bearing identification numbers on the inner and
outer races will tell your bearing supplier which ones you need.

Many of the builders of the newer flail mowers have a trash door that alows the end user to open
the little varmits up and permit the flail rotor and knives to quickly eject the
very thick heavy brush that it can encounter and do it quickly for the end user.
These flail mowers typically have the two row rotors for heavy brush mowing.

Welcome to the Flail Mower Nation Bubbacuse.

I went to flailmaster online but I didn't see much of a website. I hear they are great to work with. I would be interested to see what a new roller and roller bearings would cost.

I have some great ideas to fab this thing up. I like to add hydraulic actuators to everything and a trash door seems like a novel upgrade to a mover in need of a new safety door.

here are some pics I took of it today in the weeds. pretty rough

Hello Bubacuse,

The flailmaster folks have been working on thier web site
for while and for some reason you cannot access the
catalog through there. They certainly have a great catalog.

Now that I see the mower you will most definitely have bit
of welding to do AND be sure to make weldments that match
the right side exactly as log as you are fabricating a trash door.

You will need a full width paino hingefor the trash door providing
the hinge can be used in one continuous piece.

You will have to decide on how many locking pins and attachment
arms you will need to hold the trash door open.

All of this will depend on the steel thickness and how well it will be rolled to make
the finished shroud curve to assure a straight frame to eliminate any chance
of twisting and or racking the mower frame and whether the attachment
arms will be mounted on a hinge pin or solid mounts/weldments. The use
of a solid weldment eliminates rattling when mowing with a trash door
in the closed position.

Hi Guys
Anyone know how to straighten a Flail mower gage roller. I have a Ford 907 - 6'. The gage roller is a little out of round. It has some dents but that is not the issue. On soft grass you can't tell. But on harder ground is goes humpity hump when pulled.

Hello Joe1shoe,

About your rear roller its a lot out of round.

By now you have bad set of rear roller bearings
or close to it.

The stub shafts may also be damaged as well so
thats another issue affecting your decision.

Now to the problem of straightening it.

Taking it to a machine shop with a
hydraulic arbor press and thick half
section of pipe would be ideal but the
issue of YOUR time and money
comes into play for you.

You or the previous owner must have
wacked some thing pretty good while backing
in reverse when operating the mower or parking
it too close to something.

If you are not ready to buy a new rear roller and bearings
I would take the rear roller to a welding shop that is equiped
with a rosebud torch to heat it and push it back into near
center or center preferably using a half round of heavy pipe
and an arbor press.

If you leave it the bearings will fail and you will need new
bearings again so thats a legitimate concern.

Buying a new rear roller will probably cost you less than the
labor charge at a welding shop provided they have an arbor
press to bend it back to the centerline of the stub shafts.

I have a 907 7' offset flail and if one of the knifes gets hung up it will vibrate pretty hardcoree. easiest way is to raise it up and move the assembly by hand and you will see which knife isnt swinging. your local ford dealer might have the roller assembly bearings in stock... Mine did! Then you could make your own roller by purchasing a piece of pipe and some solid stock to use as the roller shaft for the bearings. If you need photos or dimensions let me know and I can get you some off mine.

As far as cost I paid $250 for mine. The previous owner replaced the right side bearing by cutting out the side of the mower.... Its since been replaced and repaired correctly! (photos are from day one)
