Hi everyone, great site!
I did some searching on this site and could not find any info about a pull type snowblower. There was only one picture of one and it was very old.
Does anyone have this type of attachment?
How many hp should I have per foot of blower?

web page

Up here in Canada they are very popular and most big snow removal companies use them. The tractors just back down the driveway, drop the blower and then drive out. Very fast. Usually only one or two passes.

I'd think that a pull type snowblower would have very limited use, because you have to first drive over the snow, drfits, and snowbanks that you are trying to get rid of.

If you have a three foot snowbank at the end of the driveway, you would need something that could drive over that before the snowblower gets to it.

Also seems that it would limited when you need to get snow away from buildings, etc, as it doesn't look like you could get too close to anything.

Where are these usually used? Seems like it would be best suited for roads or runways.

Good points because I was wrestling with those myself. If you look closely at the pictures you will see a scraper blade at the rear of the machine that cleans up any behind the blower. This would be especially useful when backing up to a garage door. After watching other machines in action last winter I saw that the pull type blower could get closer to an obastacle than a rear facing one for fear of chewing into it with the rear facing auger.

They are usually used in a snow removal business. Very popular up in Ottawa and Montreal, Canada. See some of the links above. That is what I plan on using it for. Back down a driveway, set it down next to the garage and drive out while blowing. Fastest way to clear snow that I have seen. Another bonus is that while blowing you don't have to keep your neck turned around backwards.

I plan on keeping the bucket on to deal with large drifts. For large accumulations of snow are I usually do the drive several times so the snow does not build up too deep.

That plowsite.com thread (linked above) is quite an interesting read. Sounds like these types of blowers have a large following in parts of Canada. It really is amazing how they handle snow in places like Montreal. Snow is a way of life there, and they can take care of it in a hurry!

I'll bet you'd pay close attention to which way the blower chute was pointed if you had a cabless tractor.

My uncle made 'V' type plows like that. worked, but slow as molasses. Back up, blow forward, back up a few feet, blow forward..... Can't drive through 3-4' drifts, and that's normal around here. They must get different snowfalls & no wind where these are common.
