I read with interest the prospects of the Polyurethane cutting edges for plow blades in this forum. I was wondering if anyone had experiences with these for gravel drives, and where one would purchase the edges, approximate costs etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

kadonte,
If you check w/ Fisher & Western & Meyers I'm sure they could help w/ your needs.
Have you notice the rubber blade cutting edge...I think Meyers selling them now.

I have notice the compact 4wd pickups in this area are going to poly plows, but the guy's who plows for a living still rather have the steel plows...for it would be easier to repair than poly.

Kadonte,
I recently installed a polyurethane cutting edge on my rear blade. During this time of year, I use this set-up to remove snow from my driveway. The major portion of the drive is old pavement and one section is gravel. So far this season, the new edge had performed much better than the regular metal cutting edge on both surfaces. The polyurethane I'm using is one inch thick and does not penetrate into the gravel section. However, there has been a small amount of uncompacted surface stone picked up during the process but nowhere as much when using the metal edge. I'll try to remember to look up the address and pricing info at work and re-post later. Thanks Rick

I have sent E mails to two different sites about polyurethane cutting edges, neither one has go back to me. Can anyone point me in a better direction?

I found this site they claim they make custom sized rubber cutting edges (need to scroll down a bit) link . You may also want to try places that sell snowplows. Hope this helps out.

The link guru strikes again. Great links!!!! I like the newletter. I have some good facts to try and sway the purchase of a new angle plow to a full angled V plow! I'll have to look at those links for parts suppliers for my Fisher plow parts. I go through a lot of trip springs, shoes and cutting edges. Whats the popular plow from were you are?

Many thanks again.

To follow up from my earlier post, the UHMW cutting edge that I made for my rear blade came from
JADCO INC.
PO Box 465
Zelienople, PA 16063
724-452-5252
The UHMW we purchase at work comes in 4'x8' sheets in varying thickness. A sheet of 1 inch thick UHMW costs around $230. So I've got about $20 in my cutting edge.
Thanks Rick
