HD cutters - King Kutter vs Kodiak

No need to beat around the bush: I'm looking to purchase a 7' rotary cutter to be used to clear overgrown land- mostly thick weeks, brambles and saplings less that 1" in diameter, with a good number of stumps hidden in the thick stuff.

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with either the King Kutter or Kodiak HD rotary cutters? They're priced about the same- any reason to pick one over the other?

EDIT: I just realized that the Kodiak I was looking at has chains, while the King Kutter doesn't; for an apples-to-apples comparison, the Kodiak model without chains is $500 less than the KK.

I have a Kodiak HD8, I bought over two years ago, and it has been a very good cutter so far. It was by far the cheapest 8' dual spindle cutter I could get and the quality doesn't seemed to have suffered due to the cheap price. I would buy another without thinking about it. I have a very old 5' KK that really took a beating over the years and is still very functional, just not pretty. Either brand should do you well.

I have a King Kutter Professional Series HD bush hog. It is the 6ft HD rotary cutter with an 80hp gearbox and chains. It is very well built to say the least. I am very impressed with the cut quality and how smooth and quiet this cutter is. There is a very big difference in the standard and Professional HD product Lines. Several years ago we got a friend of ours to come clear some overgrown pasture for us. He brought a 90 hp New Holland and a 6ft HD King Kutter. That tractor and mower spent the day mowing down 5inch+ trees and brush.It impressed me so much I bought the exact same mower my friend had. I have no experience with Kodiak Cutters so I can't comment on them.

I have a Bush Hog 296, but two of my neighbors have 7 foot Kodiaks. I watched one neighbor mow an overgrown hillside for another neighbor with his Kodiak around 6 weeks ago. That mower was a beast. BTW, I watched because I was worried about him having difficulty on the slope of the area. It cut just like the straight razor shave that Barbers used to give in the Olde Days. I have no experience with the KK brand, but all the reviews that I have read about them were positive. Best wishes.

I have a 7' HD Kodiak rotary cutter. I like it, and would buy it again. It is a beast, weighing in at about 1400 lbs! The deck is made of heavy gauge steel and the welding was done well. I'm impressed with the quality of the cut, even when zipping along at 6 mph. It seems to be able to handle brush and saplings well. I have had it almost a year with zero problems. I think it was a good value compared to the bigger names.

I ended up ordering the Kodiak; the specs for the KK and the Kodiak were roughly the same, but the Kodiak included chains and the KK didn't for roughly the same price. Should be delivered by the end of the week and then its off to the brush!
