I am wondering what the largest finish deck I can pull behind my 20HP 2cyl. diesel? I was thinking 60". Is 72" too big for this size tractor? Thanks in advance for your responses.
My first tractor was a 21 hp 3 cyl diesel and the dealer set me up with a 48" mower. The same tractor will pull a 54" mid mount mower no troubles. Sixty inches may strain it a bit if you don't have low gearing.
I have easily pulled a 5' REAR DISCHARGE finish mower with a FORD 1210 (16hp, 13hp PTO). My new to me Mahindra 2015 gear (20hp, 18hp PTO) man handles the same mower.
If you are just mowing grass it doesn't take a lot of HP for a mower. When you start getting into the 72" or plus size mowers the weight of the mower should be taken into consideration. My 30HP Kubota is only rated for a 500 pound rear mower. My 72" mower weighs 719 pounds. Although my Kubota powers this 72" rear mower easily I am pushing things quite a bit with this much weight on the three point.
I have a 24hp (at the engine) yanmar 2cyl. I can run a 72" mower on it but its all it wants. Now if you cut your grass weekly you could prolly get buy with a 72"er but for me its weeks often months and i have to drop a gear and take 5ft bites to keep the mower speed up.
I dont think they put a limit on what the yanmar can lift on the back like that. They give your lifting limits like were your releife will pop on the three point but i dont recall seeing anywere to keep a weight to a certain amount. Maybe cause its old and a grey model? But if it can lift it the tractor should be able to handle it or else they would set the releife lower you would think.
