I've been looking for a used power rake for sale for a little while now. I see prices all over the place, some are still close to 8k or so and some are down near 3k. It seems like the older bar type power rakes are a lot cheaper, whereas the newer carbide tipped rakes are more, makes sense.

I have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys can chime in on:

What should I look for when I go look at a used rake for sale? Are their common problems with these? Wear items that are expensive to replace?

I see some have bar type drums and some have carbide tipped nubs. I read that the bar type are better at windrowing debris and rocks, and the nub type are better at redoing lawns and ripping up hardpack.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Will I notice a big difference practically speaking?

Also, some have scarifiers on the front of them. Is it worth it to try and find one with scarifiers?

I'd like to purchase one of these rakes over the next few months if possible.

Also, can anyone post pictures of what you've done with your power rakes?
