How much slop in a skid stear quick attach

I have a set of ss quick attach pallet forks for my pin on loader and have started making a skid stear adapter so I can use them. What I need to know is how much play to leave between the outsides of the plates and the insides of the receiver on the back of the forks. I'm thinking about 1/4 inch on each side. Is that about right?

Sounds about right. I've never measured it but that seems to be about what my clearance is.

It seems like all of my plates/attachments fit up very tightly.

If you leave 1/4" on each side then you have the possibility of 1/2" on one side while 0" on the other. That seems like a lot of play for something that is not supposed to move at all. The clamps help but tight tolerances would help more.

If it were me I'd go with 1/16" on both sides only to allow for inconsistencies in manufacture, damage, welding heat warp.

I never measured any of mine, but think they have about 1/4" total clearance. About 1/8" each side. If too wide, and get positioned all to one side, one lock pin may not slide down and lock in.

I made more clearance at the bottom, less at the top. As the hitch enters the attachment it sort of funnels it in. Makes it easier to hook up. I'm talking 1/2 at bottom, 1/4 at top.

That is about what all mine seem to have. ... A little more and the pins wont drive if youre all the way to one side. Much less and the need for coupling position accuracy and cleanliness will become a nuisance.

Most of mine are around 1/4 to 1/2". I just got a versatach grapple and it's at least 3/4 on each side, my forks are almost as bad. Makes it a pain to hook up, I have to use a prybar to move it to one side so it latches. Someday I will weld a filler on each side to stop this. 1/2" play total should be lots unless you are bad at reading a tape measure and cutting on the line.

44" is the standard width.


Some of my attachments are much wider, but it doesn't matter once it is latched on.
