John Deere 990
Hi everyone. New to the site. I have an '05 John Deere 990. I'm looking to get a backhoe ASAP to dig a septic pipe trench. What backhoe's are compatible? I think the 8A is compatible, anything else? Bradco? Where do I get the subframe? And finally, I believe the previous owner had a rear remote installed to operate a log splitter. I don't see any valves/switches to operate the rear hydraulic line. Am I missing something? Do i need to plumb anything else into the tractor to operate a backhoe? I'm mechanically inclined and looking to install it myself. Thanks in advance for the help!

I would start by calling the companys you mentioned to get a compatibility question answered. Backhoes that are attachments for tractors come with their own pump that runs off the tractors pto.

I just put a Woods BH90X backhoe on my Branson 38 H.P. tractor. Woods also supplied the subframe. You plug the hoe into your remotes and operate it with your backhoe control levers. Woods is an excellent unit. Where in Mass are you located?

Steve, welcome to TBN.

It sounds like you have whats called a "power beyond" loop installed, it's for operating things like backhoes and splitters that have their own valves, it flows oil all the time so its imperative that it be connected whenever the tractor is running. You can't control it, thats why you dont see a valve. A "remote" includes a valve to control the flow of oil to a cylinder or motor.

An 8B might be hard to find, but Woods and Bradco are two names I can think of right now.

Unless you have a frequent use, your money may be better spent renting a mini-excavator for your trench, your tractor and FEL will work nicely with it. Tractor mounted backhoes will run 6-8 thousand dollars.

Thanks for all the info. I am looking at this backhoe this weekend:

bradco hd-9 backhoe

It was mounted on a skidsteer though. I have a friend that does fab work, he would probably be able to mount it. Where do I get the subframe for that though? Bradco?
It sounds like this power beyond loop is all I need for the hydraulics for the backhoe. I've never heard of it before.
