3PT Ballast

This is a simple ballast. Keeps the weight tight to the tractor. Just a 55 gallon drum with top cut off. Put a draw bar through the lower part of the drum. Attached a piece of square stock with one side partially cut out, to slide the toplink in. I had to bend the drum near the rim to keep the toplink from hitting it when fully raised. Then had it filled with concrete.

Cost
$20 for draw bar
1 hr of my time for using torches and welder
concrete was free!

Estimated weight 1200 lbs.

It will get painted in the summer.

A smaller version could be made with a smaller drum (I think 35 gallon is the next size smaller).

The 2120 loader is being modified with a plow to wing back side snow banks. Also getting a set of chains for the rear. No signs out yet but I agree they need to be out!

i do need something like this, and i do have an old drum around, need to get an extra draw bar and some angle iron for the top link attachment, i would need about 600 lbs, how much concrete is that about 7 bags?

Alex, 600 lbs is approximately 4 cu ft of concrete, but why pay for concrete to put in a drum. Use dirt! You might want enough concrete to reinforce the drawbar if it penetrates the drum.
