I lucked into a beautiful day off today & took advantage of my new Bro-Tek ripper tooth (thank you Richard) to dig out a big maple stump that wasn't going well with my backhoe bucket. Took me about 7 hours & I still have to get it out of the hole but I need to get some of the dirt off to lighten it up!! Awesome add on to make my backhoe much more efficient at stump removal!!

I had time yesterday to get after that stump & root ball. Even after removing the dirt & rocks intertwined in the roots it was still too big of a beast for my B3300! I got out my Stihl 310 & started cutting! Phew! It's now out in my woods where we'll have a fire this winter & do some sledding!

With my soil and the power limitations of the BX23... the ripper has not been very effective.

The one I bought has wide flanges or gussets and that seems to be why I hit the hydraulic limit of the backhoe.

This stump was by no means a cake walk for my B3300SU - I'd say it was a good 10 hours of work once I started on it with the Ripper Tooth which made it so much more efficient. I started on with my bucket but it just didn't work well for this application. My loader was no match for the weight of stump until I cut some good sized chunks of of it! I had to be patient and persistent to break up the larger roots but it performed!

I have several Bro-Tec products... all are well built.

I had one big stump I was working on a neighbor said he'd been watching me all morning... said in Montana they would just dynamite it...

Not really an option living in a city of 425,000 people.

Since then, I've added a 110 Deere TLB and the hoe is very impressive... I imagine a ripper on the 110 would really rip!

I thought making one from a dozer ripper shank I found on the side of the road a few years ago...

Good job on the stump zilla!

What does the Bro-tek ripper cost? I just made an offer on a BX23, and I'm gonna buy a ripper if my offer is accepted.

Also, are Bro-Tek and MIE the only ones making a ripper for the BX series?

I have one I use on a 1025r's 260 backhoe. I found it does a quick neat job on stumps with most of their lateral roots are within a foot or so from the surface but that larger stumps with deeper lateral roots need at least some bucket time to expose the deeper structures. I prefer the ripper to a bucket when possible since it leaves less mess, especially if nearby plantings are involved. It is also a bit easier to use in conjunction with a thumb to pick up timber than a bucket as angles are not as much of an issue.

I don't recall the price for the ripper itself as I bought it as part of a thumb/ripper combo.

The ripper lists for about $390 for the BH77. The one for your size is cheaper but I don't recall the price.

Thanks for the insight! I love this tool!!
