Is there anything I can spray on my equipment--stored inside---that will keep the ground engaging plus other parts from surface rust over the winter? I want to be environmentally conscious to the degree that I don't want to impact groundwater. Someone told me floor wax was a good idea but I haven't looked into it.

I suppose I could spray them with that black paint type coating they sell but I get black overspray on everything and it's expensive. Any good ideas?

Fluid Film is The Answer.

It is also the best product to spray on tractor PTO stub and implement PTO shaft to get them to mate.

paint it with chep paint. it will plow off in the spring.. cheap alkyd paint is about 25$ a GALLON and they covers quite a bit. overspray? switch from a syphon gun to a pressure pot or hvlp.. those can be had at harbor freight for less than the price of the paint. add in a gallon of 8$ mineral spirits and an air hose and you are good to go. just pull them outside to spray. cardboard can be used to hold up as a mask when spraying.. plastic sheeting can be layed and draped in and around parts to also mask. if just looking for a quick sealed coating.. looks like about 60$ and some time will get LOTS of blades, tips, points and shares covered.

Or you can do like most farmers in this area and not worry about a little rust. Next time the implement is used the rust will be ground off - also anything you might put on to prevent rust. The real areas to be concerned about are all the bearings and bearing surfaces. Greasing at last use and inside storage will adequately protect most any implement.

Dad never did it because I was there to do it. He had me to use an old paint brush and used motor oil. Do not pour on to ground however.

Dollar General cheap anti rust line of many colors of paint is the best way that I know even if they set outside.

Rust will make spring time heavy clay soil stick like concrete.

AH - learn something new every day. Our soil types - loess - will adhere to bottom plows etc for a very short time and then the plow will clean off and shine. Any heavy clay soil is a very localized and an infrequent occurrence in this area.

.

cause / effect.

where do you think that used motor oil on the implement goes once the implement hits the ground. it doesn't magically go away. it goes intot he ground. same as if you poured it into the ground... just takes a rest stop on the implement a bit. oil does not evaporate....

:(

Please reference the Fluid Film link I provided above. It does not seem to impact environment per their web page. "...FLUID FILM products are solvent free and consist of an all natural lanolin base, which contain less than 1% VOC in their bulk form.

Remaining solvent free since the original formulation in 1943, the FLUID FILM product line is made of the highest quality corrosion preventives and lubricants available on the market today.

FLUID FILM, when used on cutting devices, will not burn greenery."

A fart probably does more harm to the environment than does fluid film.
