I need an expedient ballast weight on 3PH

Well made some progess:

- Got the barrel, it's steel instead of plastic, beggars can't be choosers
- steel cut, drawbar bought (thanks honey!), installed and welded in with about 100 lbs of various rebar and scrap steel.
- I have 10 bags of ready-mix, I'll buy another tomorrow because the two 3" PVC pipes didn't take up as much room as I originally thought. I also have some broken concrete blocks on site that I'll mix in with tomorrow

When we put it back into the truck, my buddy asked how the heck I was going to get it out; it was a lot heavier than I expected, glad he was there to help. My answer: Simple: I've got a tractor with forks! I'll be careful using it without ballast and have my wife take videos for you guys to quibble over in the next few days or so (assuming, of course, there are no major disasters or even a minor disaster!).

Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it going..I set it up on the gravel driveway and put the concrete in the barrel in place so I could get the 3 pt. on it. I knew I would never be able to move it by myself.

Hope you stuck those PVC tubes in to hold a shovel and rake, left a bit of room at the top for a tow chain ....

Should have gotten these:

I wish I would have seen those when I was down at AS to pick up my flail.

I'll have to get a set next time I head that way(3 hour plus drive for me, one way).

One of those caged plastic tanks(they go for $50-$75 around here) would add 2,400 lbs or so of ballast.

Seems like you would have had close to the same money in buying the rear forks and they can carry ballast or any other number of things.

Get the food grade so you can fill it with beer :)

Or if you need to water a remote plot, clean water.

But be careful, I think the forks pictured are only rated for 2,000 lbs.

In Mississippi SWMBO's cousin "borrowed" one and used it to water about an acre of watermelons during the drought last year. He said he would have lost the entire crop without it.

Pretty close: I'm in about $75 ($32 for the drawbar and $38 for the concrete, plus $5 in rebar). But you also have to factor in the cost of something to carry with the fork, which I don't have right now, so there's that.

It's done now. Since we didn't close as planned yesterday, it will have about a week to final cure and I'll be able to use it next weekend.

Thanks,
