You might be able to cut away some of the SSQA plate and copy this design from the Speeco Ultra Fork.

Ok, for some reason I missed this the first time around.

Please say more why and under what circumstances that both front and rear forks would be handy, please.

Not a challenge question! This is strictly a "tractor newbie" question!

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
That is easy... Bottom line is move more with less trips and ballast. You can carry logs & brush for example front and back, ballast on the back when working heavy on the front and ballast can be anything you can pick up with forks. Baled hay on pallets front and rear cut down on the mileage also.

    Thanks,
I agree with what MorningViewStables said.

Since I made my 3PH pallet mover I started putting everything on pallets. I have firewood, mulch, bricks, blocks, scrap metal etc on pallets. Sometimes I need to move multiple pallets and it is handy being able to move 2. I have a QH and with the 3PH mover I don't even get off the tractor to hookup or unhook from it. When you lift something with the front forks you have to hook up to the forks and then put something on the 3PH to counterweight. With a set of 3PH forks you don't have to worry about adding a counterweight if you have your loader on so they are faster to use in a way. You can also lift more on the 3PH.

They are also handy on a BX.

Good idea! I found a source for relatively new pallets for $2 each; I plan to pick up 25 or so of them tomorrow afternoon.

Got the ballast barrel done and took some (horrible) pics of it today. I picked it up with the FEL/Forks and the imbalance wasn't as bad as I thought; I *might* have gotten away with moving some of my stuff without the ballast barrel but I'm still glad I made one. I'm into it about $70 or so ($32 for the drawbar plus $38 or so for concrete, it took 8 80 lb bags) and lots of scrap steel (there is 2"-3" piece of railroad rail welded to the pick up lug near the bottom of the barrel).

    Be gentle!

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it!

One final finishing touch was I took some rubber tubing and split it lengthwise. I then formed it around the sharp edges of the cutout where the toplink goes into the barrel. This will help prevent you from getting cut when hooking up.

I would look some more. I get my pallets for free. Most business are happy to have somebody pick them up, they are basically trash. I get most of mine from Napa. I have a customer that works for a packaging company and he brings me a pick up load once in a while. Another idea on free pallets is your tractor dealer. Some people on here get them free from Lowes but my Lowes charges $10 for them.

If you look close, you can see how the top link has already started bending it to fit - this was due to the binding in the lower arms that took me about 30 minutes to horse around getting this weight hooked up the 3PH. The tractor has been stored outside there - used to be - tree sap all over it. Fortunately, superior intellect, skills and experience (reality: carrot and stick e.g. grease and a BFH) finally got it hooked up.

I'll either bend the ears over or weld some angle to take the top link hook up to the front of the barrel, haven't decided yet.

The tractor is super stable now. I went out into the back 20 and moved several dead fall trees off the trails, never felt any degree of tilting forward at all. I'm glad you guys helped me build this!

I already went and got them by the time I saw this post. Right now, I've got bigger fish to fry and I need to be ready to load stuff in the next couple days rather than looking for the best of deals on pallets. The $2 however, is a far better deal than the $5 someone else offered me earlier this week - no thanks!

    Thanks for the help!
