Quick Hitches Quick Hitch versus extendable 3pt arms Demo Video

Had some cutting to do today so shot some video hooking/unhooking.

The standards were that I hooked a separate brush cutter to two different tractors and moved to a relatively flat area. Set the cutter on blocks, unhooked the tractor and moved it forward 8-10 feet. Then started the video camera, hooked up to the individual cutter, picked it up and started it, stopped it and sat it back down, unhooked and moved the tractor 8-10 feet away from the cutter. After shooting the first setup, I moved it out of the way and moved the second in place and shot it.

In an attempt to stay neutral, I'll only say if you watch the videos there will be a clock running on the screen to show the time taken for each setup. The simplicity or complications are easily seen in the video as the camera was at a good angle, with very clear video. I'll answer any additional questions viewers might have concerning equipment used. I take no side here, just offering the comparison since this topic has been discussed to death on TBN. I would also welcome anyone else's videos that might shed a different light. Let the discussions begin!!!!


First video is with my M9540 CAT II tractor using a Quick Hitch and hooking to a CAT II John Deere model 1008 10' mounted cutter. I think if you click on the pic, it'll start.









Second video is with my Brother's L3240 CAT I tractor using the factory extendable 3pt arms and factory telescopic/pinned stabilizers and hooking to a CAT I Rhino SE6 6' mounted cutter. Again, click on the pic.

Thank you, now I remember why I switched over to the QH system. I do some times miss the kicking of the 3ph arms getting the pry bar out but not often. :thumbsup: Good videos, also liked your helper.

The QH is definately faster. The 3240 not only had telescopic lift arms but it has the telescopic stabilizers. If you would have had non extendable lift arms and turnbuckles for stabilizers it would have taken longer. I think the larger the tractor and implement the more of a time saver a QH is.

I don't know why more people don't use a QH.

Because our implements are a mish-mosh of home made crap and incompatible implements. And 2 extra minutes if you have extendable lower links and sway bars, is not all that bad. Now if you do not have the extendable lower links and sway bars.. now that is torture. You can take that extra 2 minutes and turn it an extra 10 minutes not to mention getting out prybars, kicking until you damage your foot, and making up new curse words. If all of your stuff is set up correctly for the QH, then it looks like a no brainer.

Have you measured your implement to make sure they are not QH? The lift arm spacing is right on all my stuff but the toplink spacing may be off or there is a obstruction in the way of the top hook on the QH. A little cutting and welding and they will work.

My ballast barrel not built to spec, the grader blade has an obstruction, and the rotary cutter has the flip up piece of metal to allow it to float up. So I don't believe anything I own is compatible. Not that some work couldn't make it happen.

Nicely instructive videos. I find that the times are about correct for the improvement we saw with the QH vs turnbuckles etc. Although the driveshaft did seem to harder to hook up on the non-QH tractor.

You should swap your quickhitch and his telescoping arms on those two tractors, and shoot another pair of videos exactly the same, with him doing the changes.

You have enough room between your quickhitch and tire to step through between them to connect the PTO, that's not always the case on a smaller tractor. Having to hug the quickhitch every time you need to get to the PTO stub quickly wears on the love. Quickhitch also isn't as quick without the hydraulic top link to help line things up so all three points hit together.
