Well, I finally figured it out! Duh!!!

A few days after I mow. I always get these tall "stripes" of grass.

It finally dawned on me. I have a 48" rotary mower behind my trusty B8200. But, with the wide turf tires, I track about 52" So, when I mow, I knock down a "stripe" of grass that then doesn't go under the mower and get cut.

I've been wanting R4's, which are narrower. Anybody wanna trade Turf for R4's in N. Calif? Oh well, it was worth a try...

Hi Robert. My 12.8 x 16 R4's actually have a wider footprint that the 13.6 x 16 turfs. There is probably the same rubber on the road on pavement, however, the R4's are less rounded-off than the turfs were. Also I have learned that on my B8200 with one implement I have to be careful not to raise the 3pt too high or the treads whack the stabilizers. I'm going to have a welder modify the implement. Anyway... I put a 72" finish mower on this spring and your B8200 will handle it. I finally found a 6 footer that does not exceed the 3pt capacity to lift it. BefCo C30 RD6 weighing in at 420 (+/-). You've got to get some R4's... what a profound difference from the turfs! And they also are smooth on the street, which is important for me, as I drive a mile each week on the road to cut my Dad's grass.

Yeah, also if you have a 3-blade finish mower with some old worn out blades, you will eventually get two strips of grass left on each pass... that's harder to deal with though. Just try overlapping your pass by the with of a front wheel or so.

I have been doing the overlap thing, which in turn gives me effectively about a 36" mow.

Oh how I want the R4's! But, it's $$$'s away... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Yes, I forgot to mention that little detail, that you'll lose 1/4 of your cutting width. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
