I need to do something to keep out of the sun next summer but need to have a sun shade that is removable so I can get into areas with trees. The Kubota fiberglass canopy would work great but it's difficult to install and remove. It's also $600 or so. I've been looking around and came across the old "buggy top" canopy sunshades and wonder if anyone uses one or knows about them. Here's one picture.

That's the price for just the frame. With the top it's a little over $100.

Here's a ROPS umbrella that clamps to the ROPS and looks easy to install or remove. $80 or less.

Finally, here is a more typical canopy for $250 and it looks easy to add or remove.

Am looking for comments or advice. Installation would be on a Kubota MX5100 or L4300 and possibly also a JD 5520. Thank you.

SD, I have #2 on my Ventrac as I use it to mow. Easy on and off once you hook up the mounting bracket. Pull pin and remove.

My neighbor had one on his JD several years ago. It served him well, but the wind finally convinced him to buy a Canopy. I think the Umbrella Type lasted only two years because of wind damage.

Back on the farm many years ago, we used the folding canopy type on several of our tractors and they worked well. They were similar to this:

But that was a long time ago and they were really well-built. I don't know how good these new ones are built.

Another problem these days is that you have to mount them high enough to clear the ROPS, which means you don't get much shade unless the sun is almost directly overhead. But that's probably true with a hard canopy too. We never heard of ROPS back on the farm years ago, so we could mount them low enough to give you some shade until the sun got fairly low in the sky.

This style seems to be very common in India.
