    Default Backhoe Help

    Hey Everyone,

Haven't been on in quite a while, been really busy. Our property was hit pretty hard by hurricane sandy. We have been trying to work though that and the problems that it caused. Anyway, we ended up selling our JD 5083E as I was a quite disappointed with it, and it really wasn't a good fit for what we do (that's a whole different conversation). We have been talking about getting a backhoe attachment for a couple years, but since we have been so busy, plus switching machines, are just now getting around to it now. Now we have a full cab 2013 John Deere 210K, yellow machine, 88hp & 55pto hp and weighs @ 12,000lbs. This is a bit different machine than a typical AG style UT/CUT, I've heard it called a landscape loader or skip loader. It's a loader they threw a 3pt hitch on instead of an AG tractor they threw a loader on, and the 3pt is impressive. We absolutely love it! I guess my first question would be, are these BH's compatible with our machine? The reason I ask is because when we bought the machine, I inquired about a BH through Deere. I was told by our sales rep: "the 210K is a purpose built machine, you cannot get a backhoe for it", so I put it on the back burner. Now I don't see why you couldn't put one on, it has a Cat 2 hitch, 5 sets of rear hydraulics 1 of which is an aux, and a pto. Maybe I am missing something. If it is possible, which backhoe would you recommend and which installation method would be preferred, 3 pt hitch or sub frame? I have read up on some of the threads that talk about this, I just wasn't sure if the 210 being beefier/heavier would change opinion. Also do you prefer a method to power it, pto vs hydro? I don't believe any of the rear hydros have a detent. We do have quite a few other attachments that get switched frequently, so ease of attaching/removal is important to us. I was considering either the Woods BH90X or the BH1050, but liked the look/design of the 90X better(we have 2 dealers quite close). We are not opposed to other brands, the Woods just stood out. I liked the hydro thumb option and the adjustable flow valve. Any other quality brand you could suggest as I am ignorant to this type of attachment in general. I am going to email Woods as well. Thanks for your time.

I checked the JD website and a BH is not listed anywhere as a option. Perhaps it is the fact JD offers the same tractor as a TLB unit.
I was looking at the massive 3pt on that machine and bet the biggest 3pt BH would not even strain the thing much less cause any problems with the 3pt.

May be worth a look see!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think they made a TLB anymore, or are you referring to their full size backhoes? From what I've heard, the 210 is a limited market as it is. They seem to sell mainly to building contractors or large landscape operations. I tried to find a used one, but most are down south and out west. Add a cab to the mix and it was impossible. I still think a backhoe on that machine would be a desirable option for those types of businesses as well as others. I understand JD yellow doesn't make an BH for this machine. I just didn't understand why the rep would say "can't be done", either by JD green, or an aftermarket. I do know JD yellow makes a BH for their skid steers, I saw one when I was at their Oxford branch and on their website. I will look at the Bradco you mentioned, although not sure if the 511 would work as it needs a subframe.

Also, just got this reply from Woods:

"For the John Deere 210K, the BH90X should fit with the 3-point Saf-T-Lok mounting system. We do not have a subframe mounting kit for this tractor. There are several things that need to be considered, as follows:

Because this tractor has a “down-pressure” hitch, it’s important to never activate that hitch, (up, or down), while the backhoe is installed. The backhoe Saf-T-Lok hitch will maintain a stable operating position for the backhoe, when properly assembled.

The top link cylinder will not be used when the backhoe is attached, so it will have to be removed, or fastened in some way to prevent it from being damaged.

Never activate the hitch tilt cylinder(s) while the backhoe is attached.

I don’t see a problem with using the tractor’s hydraulic system to power the backhoe. However, the BH90X requires a lower hydraulic flow than produced by this tractor, so I recommend using the flow divider kit.

Return oil from the backhoe must be ported directly back to the sump, to prevent excessive back-pressure, which could destroy the control valve.

Because the primary function of this tractor is as a loader, with heavy rear ballast, the BH90X may not raise the rear of the tractor completely off the ground. It will provide adequate stability for the backhoe’s digging forces.

Once the backhoe’s Saf-T-Lok hitch has been installed and adjusted to fit the tractor, the backhoe can be removed and reinstalled without great difficulty. The most challenging part is usually aligning the tractor to the backhoe accurately enough to insert the pins."

Has anyone used this mounting method on their machine, or at all familiar with it?
