gear oil put in by whom?

Jonathan,

My experience a few years back with both a KingKutter brush hog & also a KingKutter finish mower were "buyer beware" no gear oil installed. The fact is it wasn't even supplied it cost me extra bucks to purchase it over and above the cost of the implements. I was however forewarned by store personell before I made my purchase.
Maybe thats why Quality Farm & Fleet went under in our area? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Junkman,

I did get your point--i just didn't want u to think i was thinking no damage was done--just that i was surprised it didn't look more damaged. Thanks for the advice--was plannin on that route and your view reinforces my plans.

Live and learn I guess. The advice I read on tractorbynet varied but what I recall was that visual inspection and a once a season replacement was fine. I am guestimating how many hours I used it--probably 6 or 8 sessions of 2-3 hours.

Last question--if there had been a leak, wouldn't there be some evidence inside the gearbox of gear oil sticking on the sides or gear oil splattered hear and there? The inside of the box was bone dry.

I bought my KK from tsc was strapped to a pallet, unassembled... had a big tag on it that said to add gear oil... and it was dry.. except for a small residuy.. perhaps assembly lube or something.
