That's a good way to go, if you are lucky enough to find one that matches exactly. I had to buy one that was a bit long, in order to get the 8" range of motion I wanted, then cut it down a bit to get the lengths right (it came with a bracket welded to one end of the cylinder... I basically had the bracket cut off, and the swivel socket welded back on to the base of the cylinder.

The cylinder itself, with appropriate ends for 3 point attachment. Hydraulic hoses and fittings. You may perhaps also want flow restrictors in the lines to slow the motion down to something manageable. I don't have them and wish I did... particularly on my sidelink. I have gotten used to it, however.
