Pallet forks suppose to be loose or SSQA bracket improperly made?

So if I spend $700 on a implement I should buy a welder too so I can use it. Sorry I don't see it that way. If you make something to sell and to do a job it should do it. If you bought a tractor with a implement and you beat the dealer down on price and the implement doesn't work right would you say it was worth it or take back for a new one.

I don't think that is what they are saying. Just that when having a tractor s##t happens and it is a good idea to have one. Pallet forks does stand behind there items. The loose part really isn't a big problem unless you are using the forks for things they weren't made for. Mine are loose also but that is it and for lifting straight up like they were made for it isn't a problem, I also have a pallet fork grapple and I haven't noticed if it is loose or not, I have a welder and can repair if needed because I'm just an old farmer at heart.

We had a neighbor like that. If he saw anything amiss on a piece of machinery the first thing he wanted to do was fix it. Picture a man in overalls, with wrench, pliers, and screwdriver in his pocket at ALL times!. If you even remotely complained about anything mechanical/electrical etc. he would say "well lets take a look at that!" The man could repair or fabricate anything you could imagine. The world needs more people like him in my opinion.:thumbsup:

Picture a man in overalls, with wrench, pliers, and screwdriver in his pocket at ALL times!. If you even remotely complained about anything mechanical/electrical etc. he would say "well lets take a look at that!" The man could repair or fabricate anything you could imagine. I know a guy that's 89 and he's like that. 5 years ago he built his own 6' brush cutter because he just couldn't find one he liked. :thumbsup:

I really need to work on my Get Er Done jury rigging skills rather than trying to precision over-engineer everything. Not that big of a deal to go it good enough when you can just weld it back up when it brakes again.

Picked up some 1/4" x 3/4" stock today.

I highly doubt anything will break, there is not going to be much stress on the weld. Mainly with forks it is just going to keep them from bouncing around when not loaded and you are in motion with the tractor. The force on a set of forks is downward on the top edge of the SSQA, the keeper pins don't come into play unless you are uncurling and/or pulling backwards, not something you do with forks.

Well stated Tom. I think that's also why manufacturers don't worry too much about a snug fit with their QA setup. As someone said earlier, you can't have that looseness with a Grapple/bucket or you risk tearing something up.

My dad was like that. We had a big pile of scrap metal outside the shop on our farm. When anything broke or needed some "southern engineering", he'd go dig in the scrap pile and find something and then we would fire up the cutting torch and the welder.

He could fix anything or rig up anything to work. Unfortunately, I didn't inherit that gene from him.

I bought my grapple from Palletforks.com as well, and yes I had a loose fit too. I simply welded a couple pieces if flat stock stock across the back of the holes, and corrected the issue. I did call palletfoks and let them know of the problem, and they immediately shipped me a set of the mount plates. They were actually duplicates of the original 1/4 inch mounting plates, (to double up the thickness). I was pleased they handled this for me. I have to admit, I have yet to grind off my fix, and weld the new plates!

I agree with the members who say 'just git er done'. I guarantee you'll spend more time admiring your fix than you spent fixing it. Have fun !

Yep, my welds with my old Lincoln 225 were all goobered up, but it worked! Ended up buying me a Miller Mig machine.
