We have a Salsco 627XT - 6" with hyd. feed that works behind a Kubota L4310 HST ~ 36 PTO HP. Made in CT. They make commercial quality chippers, can easily chip 5" maple and oak.

I like the feed tray geometry and ability to lift - the comparable Wallenstein tray was kinda steep (i.e. harder to feed limbs) and not much spring assist to help lift.

Only odd thing is that Salsco uses metric shear bolts - imperial fit, but with some play and kept breaking. After calling Salsco, they reasoned that many units are exported where imperial / US bolts aren't available. Metric bolts fit tight - problem solved.

Try operating before you buy. Good luck,

Thanks to all who responded. I ordered the WOODMAXX 8" w/hyd feed. I am almost 70 and the hydraulic feed looked like it makes the process easier. I considered the others that were mentioned, but the yellow will look good with my JD (just kidding) and the price was reasonable. I was impressed with their website and video and how it is shipped. They told me it is shipped in a enclosed truck. I didn't want it covered with road salt when it arrives. It will be used to make wood chips for our landscape as we have several berms and over 1/2 mile of dogwood and aronia berries that need to be remulched. Will let you know what I think of it after a few runs......

I've got the WoodMax 8" no hyd. feed and it has worked great. Because I'm the second owner Hyd. feed wasn't an option. With the Cedars that I'm working on hyd. feed would be a plus as these have many right angle branches and I'm having to cut them off before feeding. Other than that no problems at all. At one point I did manage to feed to much at one time and clogged the chute but that's it. In searching different brands the WoodMax had one of the heaviest chipper wheels out there.

Here is a question, is the wood chipper fully assembled when you received? or its packing is just like this attached photo???

Don't know anything about the Woodmaxx but I'll go along with those who recommended the Wallenstein. With a tractor your size and if you don't want to worry about ever having to force feed the thing, the hydraulic feed is a fine feature to have. There are times when a branch won't feed into my chipper because of offshoot branches or an odd bend that hangs it up in the chute. No big deal for me because I love having this thing in my garage whenever I need it and I don't care about trimming a few branches prior to feeding them into the chipper. What was important to me was no belts, simplicity in design, and heavy construction. I got all three of those things and now I don't have to rent a commercial unit whenever an 80-foot pine gives up the ghost in my woods. Enjoy your new equipment.

I didn't take any pictures of the chipper when it arrived, but it was in the steel crate like your picture, but didn't have the plywood sheets on the sides. Woodmaxx services the chipper by aligning the belts, installing the US made knives and greasing all the fittings before it ships (all stated on their web page), then plastic wrapped around the steel crate. You can view their video which shows the assembly procedure when it shows up. Mine arrived exactly as they show in that video.
