So I own a 48" Wildkat grapple which I am happy with. I stack my logs and big rounds on a heaping pile. When it's time to process these pieces into firewood, I find the grapple is hard to pick one log or round out at a time. I'm curious if anyone knows of another type of grapple that would be better suited for this? My thoughts are a grapple with an overall width of no more than 24", maybe even 18". This should allow me to grab one hunk at a time without getting hung up on other pieces. I can't decide how many tines on the top and bottom would be best. I found this add on grapple: New Bucket Thumb Grapple for Skid Steer Loader Tractor | eBay and thought it could be used as the top half of the grapple, welded to a SSQA plate and come up with a setup for the bottom tines.

I perform this function a LOT. My Grapple is on a bucket, 72". Sometimes I gotta squirrel around a little to get the exact log I want. But my trees are so crooked that they don't lay solid together.

It'll be interesting to see what solution you come up with!!!

I would investigate the possibility of adding (bolt or pin on) an additional couple of grapple tongues to your existing grapple...that would reach the log/payload prior to the existing tongues...

This works for me. Might have to knudge things around a little first to get the one I want.

Igland GR-20 log grapple, made in Norway/Finland. See my avatar. It works great!
