The only real problem I've had with overbuilding is that the next weakest link is what breaks.. and that's often the more expensive one!

That is funny, Brian.. as a matter of fact, I'm fresh out of black paint, but seem to have lots of grey.. of course all I use it for is touching up the tractor, phd, and that blade.
I'll make you a promise, if that blade ever gets painted black, I'll post a thread about it!

I bought a Bison rear blade that I use primarily for moving snow. It came with hydraulic angle and has some other nice features. The blade can be reversed for pushing, it has removable skid shoes to protect pavement, and has a reversible and replaceable cutting edge. Best of all it was fairly inexpensive. I purchased it from Beaver Valley Supply: Beaver Valley Supply Company - Bison Rear Tractor Blades It has held up very well over several winters.

I just ordered a Bison blade too - 8 footer extra heavy duty one. I ordered it w/o hydraulic, so instead it will come with manual adjust linkages. I plan to add hydraulic at a later date when I figure out a good way to do it.

It'd be nice if there was a simple kit to add hydraulics to a given blade, engineered and sold by the blade manufacturer.

For the blades that come with the linkages, it is pretty simple. For the blades that are designed for pin use only, quite a bit more involved to get everything just right.

Yes, a lot of truth in that statement. Mine was never intended for hydraulics, so there were no mounting points at all. The previous owner had a cylinder fitted, my mistake was in thinking I could use the same size, not realizing he hadn't "engineered" it properly. I may still add the crossover relief, but unless I get one cheap somewhere, it's a nice-to-have project, not a priority.
