When you are talking about unexpected or expected things in the food plot that might damage a tiller, how big of things are we talking? I know some of the areas have small saplings and root systems throughout. stumps are probably minimal. Branches and surface rocks can be removed. Unseen rocks could be a problem I guess but for the most part our soil isn't rocky. If I cut a few saplings out would you guys be worried that a small stump(maybe 1"-2"-3") would be bad on a tiller? I looked at 6' landpride tiller new for $2800. Is that reasonable? A 6-7' disc was used for $500. The disc seems nice and heavy but I don't know what to compare it to. 8' cultipacker for around $400. Any input on those prices?

I would say that if you get to a 3" sapling, you could damage your tiller. But, if your tiller is really 'heavy duty', that might not be an issue. However, if you have roots in the ground from a 3" sapling, those roots could get tangled in the tiller and cause some headaches.

I think that $2800 for a 6' Landpride tiller is a little high. But, $500 for the disc and $400 for the cultipacker sound like a pretty good deal.

If you look at the tine spacing on the tiller, you should be able to answer first question yourself. You know what size your rocks are. We do not. Land Pride makes high quality implements, Land Pride implements are priced accordingly.

Determine total weight of the Disc Harrow. The owner should know. Divide by the number of discs. You need a minimum of forty pounds bearing on each disc. You will need 20" diameter or 22" diameter discs on the Disc Harrow in order to be effective, depending on the thickness of the discs. Notched discs are better for food plots than smooth discs, which roll over vegetation notched discs will cut.

If you get the Brand of the disc and the model number off a plate on the disc frame, you can Google the total Disc Harrow weight.

I am looking at used discs that have 16" discs.

If you pull a Disc Harrow with 16" diameter notched discs behind your powerful tractor you will soon be replacing deformed discs and bent axles. Sixteen inch pans are TOO THIN for opening food plots.

Review earlier posts. The questions you posed in Post #19 were answered.

I just wanted to give a little update on what I decided. After reading, talking, learning, and thinking I have decided to go the tiller route. I got a nice deal on ebay for a 2012 Land Pride RTR2072. It's heading to Ohio tomorrow! Thanks to everyone for all the help. I appreciate all the insight and advice. Have a nice evening!

Sounds like a good deal. Post up some pics when you get it and maybe some tilled food plots and maybe some of the deer at the food plots and maybe....well we just like pictures.
