I just purchased a Yanmar LX490 W/ FEL and intend to purchase a grapple to use around the 18 acre family farm. Unlike forestry grapples, this farm grapple will have no single specific use. It's only use will be to grapple "stuff"... LOL.

I was wondering if there is any one design that seems better fitted for multiple uses and if anyone had specific recommendations or wanted to share your reviews.

I have a pretty hefty budget for the grapple so all reviews are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

I think you will be disappointed to find there is no 'one grapple to rule them all'. There are rock grapples, brush grapples, extra-heavy duty root grapples, etc.

My brush grapple would do you no good in picking up big rocks, and your big rock grapple would be too heavy for my loader to pick up.

My .02

(examples mentioned above are just that, examples. not real comparisons.)

The closest to a do it all would be a Root Grapple IMHO.

I don't see one thing I can't do with my rake style grapple . I have grabbed brush , whole trees , demoed a old house , can grab leaves , and haven't grabbed rocks yet but see no reason , have grabbed scrap iron , grabbed whole trees out the ground . Can even grab a round roll of hay . Even grabbed a old ski boat with it . Heck it does everything I want ..

It will be the same style I will buy or make for my L3800 also .

I have the heavier duty version of what ford an has. it is a compromise; it can't hold quite as much, it is a single lid (depending on who you ask that could be a good or bad thing) it rakes, it lifts, it takes a beating, it can grab enough to keep me happy

I have had a rake style, but I like this style better, because it will carry stuff.

And pick up more brush.

That manual 2 tine grapple is pretty sweet!
I currently use a single tine (stick with a nail in the end of it) and my golf cart. Pretty effective :)

I really appreciate all the pics and reviews posted. Does anyone have experience with the bucket mounted grapples?
