Hey, a big Thank You to 'the old grind' for the use of his driveway smoother. I don't know what exactly to call it but it worked great.

It is a platform about 4' x 4', made with about 1.5 in steel Sq tube on the outside square with angle iron cross members then a sheet of steel plate on top. It floats behind the tractor and picked up about an inch or so material and continually drops it in low spots. It has a 3 pt hitch with a chain on the top link to allow complete float but you can pick it up when you need to.

At first I wasn't sure it was going to be able to fill in the dozen or so potholes I had but after several passes I could see them shrinking.

Sorry no before pics but later today I'll get an after.

The advantage that old grind ' smoother has is that it doesn't disturb deeply so the drive remains solid.

I'll probably build something like it next winter.

So much for the critique I was waiting for and the success of 'repurposing' the lid from the 'apple-box unloader'.

We'll have to get together and conjure up another or two, whether 'new & improved' or not. As you saw, I'll be good for a while so hang on to the prototype. Be sure to redo after each rain. (It'll take several go's to work the fines into the lowest spots.)

Any thoughts of using 'crusher run' vs the coarse limestone (8-9?) if you add anything? Will help spread (shovel as needed) whatever/whenever you add. May take a while to crown & direct runoff ... if your place ever dries up (%!$&*# high water table ...)

btw: You might want to leave out pics of the unsightly gizmo or we might get flamed for bad design by someone who thinks every detail was planned. ... (Good start, tho' eh?)

    Here's an after pic.

Excellent start. Ok, you talked me into it... I'll hang onto it and give another go after the next couple of rains before I bring it back.

I was thinking about asphalt millings but maybe crusher run limestone would be better?

Wish you were closer, I could use a small tiller.

Thanks. I wish I took a before pic. There were numerous potholes. The old grind really helped me out with his apple unloader smoothy thingy. Yeah gotta build one.

I'll post a pick of the business side that rides on the gravel. Probably get it tomorrow.
