I'm posting this here in the attatchments area instead of the chineese area, as this is an implement question. I just got an email advertisement from a co. that sells chinees dozers, excavators, and apparently jinma tractors. They attatched a few pics to the email, and one I noticed was a mini-round bailer.. matched in size for the jinma's... the only two jinmas I saw were a 184 and a 204 .. so I guess the pto requirements of this bailer are.. uh.. low.. like 15-18?hp

This might be a neat thing for our small domestic compacts, for those of us that have thought about doing 'hobby' hay.

Any dealers here that have info on these small chineese bailers ?

I'm deffinately interested in info.... I got about 10 spare acres that is just screaming hobby hay...

Soundguy a few weeks ago I was searching for a 2 wheeled tractor page and found some Autrian made balers for walkbehind tractors. They had a disc mower, rake and a baler that mad some nice little bales if there is such a thing lol. But the prices were outrageous. I could buy alot of stuff for there prices. I think that China produces a cheaer model for a low hp tractor. I saw a small baler for balinvg pine needles one time. They work real good with out having remotes. Ill try to find the link. I met a fella with one and it did real good with bush hogged hay since pine needles arent that long.

Hobby hay? (((Shudder)))

I swore off haying a long time ago and can't figure out anything that would make it an attractive hobby.

But if you want a mini-baler they exist. Such as these

I'd guess the economics work out only for a hobby. Our family farm makes our own hay, sometimes straw too, but buying it from Canada has often been pretty competitive.

I've seen those mini bailers before.. but they are pricy.. and like I said.. this would just be 'hobby'.. to go along with the rest of the small farm stuff. That is why I thought about those chineese bailers.. they obviouslyare set for smaller tractors, and well.. like the chineese tractors.. should also be priced accordingly ( lower than domestic.. etc ).

Found this link that might help. Looks like mini balers are really popular in the UK...Im sure someone here knows. I would be interested if the price was right. I need hay for my goats and there are plenty of fields around my town that arent used. In many cases the owner gives the hay away for the effort of keeping the grass cut back.

Sorry to see nothing came of this post. I did attempt to correspond w/ a dealer in the UK but never got a response. Doing a net search shows that these are popular in the UK and maybe Europe as a whole. However, Ive yet to see any here. Too bad to.

I am in the UK - and I will soon have a tractor - JD 4410 on order, promised just after New Year!!

I have seen mini balers for sale here at the farm shows - but they were expensive - about US$7,000 new - just for the baler

plus of course you would need other haymaking equipment, and possibly a mini bale wrapper - more $$

I see one advertised here, together with various accessories

http://www.siromer.demon.co.uk/Hay_Making_Equipment.htm

I think the mini baling equipment for sale in the UK is mostly made in Italy. In Italy they have lots of small farms, so I guess lots of people have compact tractors and need suitable equipment

You can even get them for two wheel pedestrian tractors

see

I expected balers made in europe to be expensive. Howver, what about the Jinma's? There is a dealer listed in one of the posts above, is he close to where you are?

Just can't justify the cost of these unless you have a well-planned market.

Who is going to handle & buy these bales? They will be an odd shape & size. Too small for the regular round bale equipment, are the small enough to stack by hand? Go to www.ytmag.com & search the archives for the old Allis Chalmers round baler from the 40s - lots of stories of the barn wall blowing out from stacked round bales.

On the other hand, being able to bale pine needles, or selling straw at Holloween for an unusual item at 3-8 times it's normal price to yuppies might pay it off quicker than a real hay operation - IF you have that kind of market & marketing skills.

Just food for thought.
