What\'s the best attachments?

I just bought a used 1925 33hp NH and am looking for information about what attachments I should buy. Some other NH owners said to buy NH fel, a Woods backhoe and a Bush Hog post hole digger. Are they correct?

Welcome to the board and do jump right in w/both feet. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The FEL the most helpful attachment I consider, and it will more than pay for itself in years to come.

that depends...

chuck,

you have to tell us what you want to do with your tractor, there are thousands of attachments, each will do a specific job well, so you need to assess your property, which tasks that you need to accomplish the most, which tasks you dont need to do at all.
for example i do two major tasks with my tractor, i cut grass and i move material, so i have a finish mower and a rotary cutter, i have a front end loader and a rear blade for moving material (snow, gravel, bark mulch etc...) these two tasks are about 90 percent of what i do with the tractor. my wife likes to landscape the property so a few years ago i bought a post hole digger with a 12" auger, plants trees, shrubs, rose bushes faster than the devil. that is about 2 percent of what i use the tractor for. i have a 3 pt lift to move things around the property, i have a pto generator if the power goes out. i have a tiller to make garden beds. i have a water pump i made into a sprayer.

of the last four attachments, their use comprise the last 8 percent of what i use the tractor for. could i do without them? sure, would i want to? absolutely not. have i bought my last attachment? are you kidding!!!

given my list i would rate the loader as the most usefull. but i use the mowers the most. in your situation it may be completely different.

let us know what you plan on doing with the tractor, i am sure someone on this site has done it before and would give you valuable insight into the proper attachment and its use.

Re: that depends...

We recently bought 14 acres and want to try our hand at growing a garden and orchard. Our first project will be a 32x64 pole barn. We are also going to plant 2200 white pine trees purchased through a state program and started in a state nursery. We bought a used 1925 33hp NH Boomer to help us get the work done. It should be fun.

Re: that depends...

I'd have to agree with going with the FEL. I have a NH1720 that I use. I purchased a RZ-60 Bush Hog rotary cutter a little later on and really love it. You think people come out of the woodwork when you have a tractor!!!! You ought to see them when they see a rotary cutter on back of your tractor.!!!! I also purchased a 6 ft. rear blade for snow removel. I like that too!!!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I thought when I planted a 100 trees a year that I was doing well! 2200 trees /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif It will be a busy summer!! Also remember row spacing if your going to mow between them. With a rotary cutter on the back your turn radius increases. Take it from experiance.
Have a great day!!
