I asked this question earlier but was specific to a Kubota frame so no one replied. Hopefully this will be a better method of asking.

Are forks made for a forklift built to a certain standard so they are interchangeable? I am looking at the Kubota B1659 frame but I'm not sure if I would have to buy kubota forks or not. I found many threads on here of people buying used forks from repair companies but it seems like they are mostly building a frame to go with them. I have access to some forks but don't know if they would work. I found one picture of this frame from a head on angle. It looks like the same style but I can't tell dimensions.

Anybody have any thoughts.

Thanks.

There are different classes of forks. There are class 1-5 that I know of. The difference between each is the fork itself is thicker and the distance between the the hooks were the fork latches on is different.

Page 7 has the different classes.

Some good info here: Technical Information

The general standard for the size used on tractors is class 2's that have 16" spacing

I too had a pair of old forks from an old fork truck at work. So I bought this:

New Skidsteer Pallet Fork Frame skid steer loader attachment kubota (FRLDNS)

They shipped right away. Free freight to a commercial address. Came Fedex ground. My forks slid on without a problem.

The distance between the "hooks" on my forks was 16 inches. I understand there are larger ones out there. But 16 inch is quite common. This frame handled 16 inch perfectly.

I only have a Kioti CK20 anyway, so I really can't lift all that much. I think the frame itself weighs about 160 lbs and my forks weigh 87 lbs each. This setup will lift I think 4000 lbs but my loader won't so I don't worry if this is strong enough.

Very good experience buying the frame.

Thank you guys. That is exactly what I was looking for. I can measure the forks and then compare it to the frame.

I have a skid steer quick attach on my tractor. I bought regular skid steer QA forks at a local supplier for the same price as Titan forks on Ebay. Just over $500 incl tax. If your loader has the SSQA plate then it should be able to use any skid steer attachments. My forks are the class 2 type (16") shown in the link provided by Kennyd.
