I finally finished my "carry all/Weight box"
I needed something for my machine for when I use with my grapple as it will often make the rear end real light. I make it about 1400lbs and on the top have all my chain saw stuff. The idea is put it on and when i go to cut trees everything is with me.
It is set up to hold 2 saws, a waterproof box for extra saw chains, fuel, wedges, oil, axes, etc. I also figured I would add a hitch on the rear so I can pull the log splitter. Here is what I came up with.....

The photos show the overall look and some of the construction. The edges are old beams I had laying around and the bottom is very heavy "C" channel (about 6" wide) a friend gave me. I made a solid bottom with it and figured when I drop it down it works as a great "parking" brake - really locks to the ground. I work on a lot of hills and hate just using the regular parking brake as it never seems that strong so I figure this adds another level of safety. All together I have about $200 bucks in everything including a box of welding rods!

Anyway just figured I would see what people thought and share my idea for others builds.
The only negative I found so far is that it is too heavy to move with my BX if needed.....

Looks nice and heavy duty, I like how everything fits, you did a great job. I bet that it really helps with stopping/parking.

Very clever, great job.

You could add a couple of wheels to it so you could take the weight off. Small trailer tires (8" or 12") would probably work. Leave the wheels on when you are moving to the work site, then remove them and sit them on top so your "speed brakes" will continue to work. An easy way (I think) to attach would be to install 2" channel (receiver)on each side, then mount the tires to a hitch or just mount to an extended hitch and insert into your tow receiver. Regardless, you probably get the idea.

That is not a bad idea. In my case I store my non hydro implements out on a gravel area next to the shop so I really can't move anything around out there. The backhoe and more mechanical implements get to stay inside. Seems as I get older my storage space gets smaller..... go figure

Thanks for the idea.

Your welcome. I spent about 40 years "advising" people on how to make improvements to their operations. Then I retired and continue to "advise" myself on what I should be doing -but I'd rather stay inside instead of working outside where it's in the low 100's. :) Two of my sons are engineers so they might have gotten the bug from me.

BTW: I like your avatar. Reminds me of toys I had when I was very young and didn't know any better.

It's just too bad that you didn't have anything heavy duty laying around to fabricate a weight box and carry-all out of, as well as not really being able to think ahead and follow through on a plan of attack.

Obviously, I am kidding, and you did an awesome job, way to go!

Thanks PhysAssist!!!
So far it is really working out well. I do agree it is way over built but I was just really lucky to have access to some free steel so I figured may as well make it good and solid.
Sure does keep the rear of the tractor planted to the ground.

De nada, I dint say nothin but the truth, and keeping the rubber side down and the metal side up is pretty much the whole reason for the thing, no, so building it strong was the obvious the best way to go - no such thing as over built, it all adds to the gravity of the situation.

Keep buildin em and showing em, so us beginners keep getting good ideas.

Thanks for sharing,
Thomas
