Thats the problem !!!
I was moving the tractor onto a concrete pad and thats when the seal was damaged,I am going to have to shorten the PTO shaft before hooking it up and using it(and repair the tractor). Talk about learning by your mistakes. OUCH !!

My cousin came over and we tore into the JD 4400,it busted a lot of stuff inside my tractor and slightly bent the PTO shaft. That is the 1st time my cousin had touched a farm tractor(mechanically),we took the thing apart and installed new parts and reassembled it(my cousin is a very good mechanic).Of course we shortened the PTO shaft and I took the winch out today and give it a good workout,I wish I had bought the thing a long time ago.It is amazing how good it works.

That is one of the best $1400 I ever spent, even though it cost me an extra $200 in parts from my oversight on the PTO shaft being in need of being shortened before being used.
I could not believe that some people have the same winch advertised for $3000 and my dealer sold it to me for $1400.
With the ground frozen hard as a rock I plan on bringing lots of timber out of the woods in the next week.

Yep, I called your dealer and tryed to buy one from him and he never got back to me. so I build my own. used a hyd. winch, works great and is way ahead of a PTO winch, with that rope and pulley system. Have fun, work hard and be careful.

I honestly do not know if the dealer sells long distance.
He has a heck of an inventory,I counted one day probably well over 100 bush hogs in stock, flat beds for trucks/trailers/spreaders /Massey Ferguson dealer(lots of Masseys)
T-posts thousands of them.No one can touch him in price around here.

In the years that I have follow this site on an off never heard much about winches for logging, since this is what I use my tractor for the most I though I would post a few photos. And also remind any one who would like to get one that you can only pull so many logs at one time, sometimes one tree may be to much!!

I have been using mine and love it,I wish I had bought it last summer before I started logging. It would have saved me so much time and wear and tear on my tractor.

Old Hickory,
How much would that repair have cost at a dealer?

I bet it would have cost a $1000 not to mention not having my tractor for a week.My cousin does a lot of contracting work(building etc) he does not work full time,he is great mechanically as well. I pay him by the hour, labor would be a lot lot more at the dealer. He has helped me numerous times. We have been in the woods 10:00 pm at night before on the frozen ground re-threading a hole on the steering axle to replace a fitting that had been sheared off in the axle. All I have to do is call him and he comes ASAP. He is a bachelor and he always appreciates the meal my wife has on the table for him before he leaves to go home. We were outside working all day Monday on the tractor and it was cold out,he worked all day without gloves,I asked him if his hands got cold and he said as long as he kept moving he was alright ( 20 degrees tools are pretty cold )
