Hi all,

Our meditation center has a John Deer 410B, and I'd like to put some chains on the rear tires. It is only 2WD. The tire size is 19.5L-24. If you happen to have some second hand tire chains that would fit, we would be happy to buy them from you.

Also, if anyone could share an economical way to purchase some new ones, that would be appreciated as well.

Thank you very much,
Jeremy

Can't help on used chains but here's the link to Tirechains.com for your size.
19.5L-24 Tire Chains
You might check your local TSC store. I bought mine on closeout. (Old stock they were trying to get off the shelf) for $180. a pair. The chains I bought were larger (longer) than what my tires take so I just cut off the excess.
Chains that will fit your 19.5x24 also fit 18.4x24 and 18.4x26 so you have more size options when looking. Chain Model #s are DR783, RB883, and Tru268. CL is another source for used tire chains.

Thanks George,

Really appreciate it; especially giving me options on the size. Will have a look around and will check out those stores. Much thanks and best wishes.

BTW, I used to know a guy from your town. He worked for the railroad. An engineer. I also used to live just a little south of you in Sussex, NJ. But that was a long time ago.

Interesting. There's a guy who comes from time to time who worked on a train. He knows a lot; in his 70s now. His name is Barnard and he helps me out tons as I learn about the physical maintenance on the grounds and buildings here. Is that him?

No luck at TSC. Been looking at Craigs list but no one seems to have chains that big. Do you think we could get away with bungee cords on the outside of the tires to act as chain tensioners, or do we need the real thing?

The guy I new would be in his mid to late 60's. Name was Charlie. As I said it's been many years so he may not even be around there any more. This was in the late 60's, early 70's. He may have known him if he was around back then. I can't imagine there were too many guys from Glen Spey working for the railroad.

I use the heavy black rubber 12" bungees as tensioners on my chains. They work fine.

OK great; how many bungees per tire would you say work good for you?

Sorry, I should have mentioned I only use 2. I mount my chains pretty tight so only need 2, one at 12 to 6 O'clock and one from 9 to 3 O'clock.

I've mounted at least one set of tractor chains every year for at least the last 40 years. If chains are properly sized and mounted, nothing is needed to keep them on. Nothing at all.
