Tractor
Kubota L45
This might sound funny, but I want to build a motocross track. I keep seeing my Kubota TLB and thinking it should "help" me.

Step 1 is to turn the "grass" into "dirt". I have a track laid out, I keep riding it, but I can't get the grass down to a nice dirt track just slipping across on the bike over and over.

What attachment do I need for the tractor to cut the grass down to dirt?

kill the grass out with a chemical first. a "all kill" chemical.

then go at dealing with the track.

3pt hitch, rear blade, box blade, ((one of them having scraficer teeth on them)) rear blade to pull dirt back in, the other to help fill in ruts
would most likely suggest a TNT (top and tilt) for 3pt hitch. to let you adjust things on the fly, to get corners and like at a specific angle and to feather things much easier.

drag harrow and/or chain drag harrow, / some sort of finisher that drags big stuff (large clumps of dirt) out and smooths things out. heavy metal beam or pipe or something behind chain harrow or chain link fence can help put a finish touch of smoothness on things.

FEL (front end loader)
if ya going for jumps, a backhoe might help in compacting the dirt on the hills/jumps (within reason)

possibly a "yard roller" aka a drum filled with water, to help compaction.

==============
ya don't really want to dig down more than you have to. and then go back and compact the dirt. that going back and compacting dirt, you may not get it compacted as good as it was. or less the top soil is a gooy mess to begin with, and the to soil needs to be stripped off, and better fill dirt put in. possibly building track more likely a gravel driveway if wanting to get rid of gooy mess areas. and dealing with water drainage being upper top ting to deal with first.

I use a tiller on my track. Just about an inch or two down so the weeds die but not to disturb the dirt too much so the traction is gone. Than keep the weeds done with lots of dirt bike use! ;)

If you can find someplace that rents them, get a Harley rake. It will remove and windrow the grass and leave a perfect dirt track in one or two passes. Pricey as a purchase though.

Wow, quite a few suggestions.

I realize I will need a blade and a box blade in the long run to build the berms and jumps, as well as smooth out the ruts.

To get started the potential options:
Disc Harrow
Rototiller
Harley Rake

I've been trying to find videos of guys using these implements on bare grass. I can't find squat on YouTube.

There are a few on youtube, but Everything Attachments has videos of all of them on their site. I bought a used Landpride 6" powered rake, and am absolutely amazed by the incredible job it does on cleaning up rough overgrown ground. Even if you decide it's not for you, you really need to see one of these in operation to fully appreciate what it can do.
