A couple of years ago when my center pin hole wallowed out on my scrape blade, after I repaired that, I welded an angle iron frame to hold 2 heavy concrete post blocks on my blade that was left over from another project. These can be removed when needed, but so far I've always kept them on there when using the blade. A little extra weight on this cheap 6 foot blade works for me so far. I thought I'd have to worry about them bouncing out, but never had that problem yet.

Good idea wish I could weld stuff myself. I just used the holes that were already in the blade .75 dia picked up some threaded rod stock bolted it all together.

I've asked my wife to keep a look out for some cheap weight lifting weight sets at her numerous yard sale adventures she would visit back when the weather was warm. (she hasn't found anything yet) I was thinking about doing something similar to what you have done on a small homemade land plane that I cobbled together to pull behind my small riding mower. I thought I could just weld a rod or two sticking straight up and stack bench press weights on it until it was heavy enough to cut a little better.

I have a 4' piece of lighter gauge railway track that I will get welded onto the concave section of the blade for added weight. That way I will still be able to swing the blade all the way around.

May I suggest to not weld it but, weld some "L" brackets to drop it into,
that way, you can remove it if need be.

I found the weights at Goodwill $10 ea new weights at Wallyworld $21.97 plus tax.
