What\'s with the poll results?

I never figured the rear blade would be the most popular way of moving snow, though it certainly works for my part of the snow belt. Figured snow blowers would win for convenience, even though they're a bit on the slow and cold side. But the fact that so many rated the FEL highly just blows me away! In my experience that is the most inefficient way of plowing (which was the survey question), and is useful only when trying to move the mountains piled up by the blade.

Are these results for real?

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

Pete,
In my opinion the front end loader is invaluable in moving snow. Back in December when we had so much snow it was the only thing that saved me. Between my back blade and the loader there wasn't anything I couldn't do with the snow. I could plow forward and backward and it made the work alot faster. Before the JD I used the skidsteer with just the front end loader and it worked great too. I could move my piles over fences, into ditches, etc. If a pile got too big somewhere I could just move it. With just a rear blade you are stuck where a pile ends up. I have to agree with a loader being so valuable. If I could only have one way of moving snow I'd want the FEL. Granted it would be faster with the right blade but not as versatile, for me anyway.

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

I was suprised as well. But the survey didn't ask what type of surfaced was being cleared. My choice would be different on gravel rather than paved.

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

It also didn't ask about removing snow, it says "plowing snow". Who would PLOW snow with a snowblower or a shovel?

For me, I use both the rear blade and the FEL.

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

I'd agree with that. I also use both the rear blade and the FEL, but it's 90% rear blade. The FEL only comes into use when there's nowhere else to push all that snow. I also use an ATV with angled blade for very rapid removal of light snow, and a shovel for close to the house. Funky question, I suppose...being forced to choose one implement. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Pete.
Being the proud owner of a front blade./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif I had to vote for the front blade./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif There are not many tractors rigged with a front blades. Probably because of expense or the amount of labor needed to install one. I would have to agree that the next best would be a back blade. Then the FEL.

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

I would love a front blade, but having spent so much bringing Clementine home I don't feel right asking the Wife for anything else...at least for a few months /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Can you angle it?

The Blade is mounted using the FEL Frame and cylinders. Check this picture. It has hydraulic angle also./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The blade is a Curtis 6 ½'. Check the price out on their site. It gets the job done so fast it takes some of the fun out of plowing snow./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif If I had it mounted on a 3010 HST I could get done even faster./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
If I had the time I would have look for an older Pickup truck blade and adapt it to the FEL.

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

Boondox,
You can pick up a old second plow from a jeep, pick up than install it to your FEL..7'1/2" plow would do the job well on your new Kubota..also the old types do angle.

Ahh...maybe if you give your B1750 to your wife than you'll have two tractors...worth a shot. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: What\'s with the poll results?

I use a 66" front dozer blade (not a FEL) and a 7' rear blade, I leave the loader in the shed this time of year. The last snow we had was 12" with 1/2" of ice under that. That is the most at one time in 20 years. Nomally we get 4" to 6" at one time. If we ever got a 2' er then I would put the loader on. It don't get very deep in Kansas.
