I have a 2003 JD 790 with no backhoe. I found a pristine #7 with subframe on a 1987 750 that he owner
is willing to sell separately from the tractor. The 790 clearly does doesn't have the same hardware
to accept the subframe. Do I need to find a different subframe, or can mounts be added to the 790
to accept the subframe currently on this #7?

Thanks for your help!

You can probably modify the 750's sub-frame with a little ingenuity. The 790 is now called the 3005 and it's quite likely you can buy a subframe, if you wish. It's really going to depend on your fabrication skills.
While you're at it, the ROPS requires a minor modification too. As you know, there are bolted on cast elbows where the ROPS uprights meet the top. There are extensions to the uprights that must be added for safe use of the backhoe.

Roy is correct.
A friend of mine bought his 790 w/ #7 BH brand new 15 years ago. Not sure if the 750 and 790 sub frames are the same but if you don't think it will fit it must be a different sub frame. If you have mechanical skills, materials, and tools the existing frame can be made to work on your 790.
I recently bought a used Woods BH750 w/ sub frame and made the appropriate mounting brackets for it to fit my tractor.

Roy and George- Thanks for the replies. What I haven't determined yet is what George mentioned... whether the subframe stayed consistent with the #7 over the years, or was specific to the tractor models. If not, I need to consider altering or looking for a subframe. If the frame did stay consistent, I simply (?) need to find the front and rear mounting bracket hardware. Green Parts direct doesn't list them. If they're not available I do have a contact with a 790 and#7... that could provide the templates to have them made up. (Wood I can work with, metal I'm not set up for.) Green Parts Direct has the ROPS extension that Roy indicated, and the Power Beyond unit is also available. Any other ideas or suggestions for parts sources are appreciated!

I'm not a Deere guy but from what I've looked up the #7 BH sub frame will fit the 770 and 790. It appears the 750 would use a different frame. So I'd guess you would need someone to make the brackets you need to attach the 790 sub frame to your 750.

I bought a #7 backhoe that was on a JD955 The fram had to be changed a little by adding 2 inches to it. Not a big deal. used it for years and sold the tractor and backhoe. Now I see just the back hoe has been for sale on craig's list.

George-

Its actually the other way around, but that's OK... the #7 is on a 750, and I have the 790.
A reply to the same message on Owning/Operating made the suggestion to do some tape measure
work on the rear attachment hardware, bolt positions, etc, and the overall length.

I didn't say a #7 BH couldn't be on the 750, just that the 770 &790 use the same sub frame. The 750 sub frame is different but shouldn't be too hard to modify.
