Tractor
Kubota BX2660 , Kubota RTV X1100C
So spring soon here and need to replace my 1993 Husqvarna lawn tractor for my 3 acres of cutting , that also has been able to get up the attached hill beside my house and just leave me a small amount to cut with gas weed wacker,.
Now I like the idea of being able to use the BX2660 Kubota and buy a 5 feet wide Finish mower, but I want to be pretty sure it will articulate enough at the 3 point hitch to back up that same hill (at least 75% coverage of the hill anyway)
I did not have a great picture of hill but see below the far away shot it is immediately to the right of the house ,and in the other it is behind truck. You can see it probably is 15 degrees or more .

All the rest of my cutting is flat , but that hill is my nemesis and is hard on back with weed wacker. But I get impression that even new garden tractors might not have the cabability to climb that hill like my old Husky does............any thoughts?

Is getting the MMM instead not an option for your situation?

I wouldn't be afraid to make a pass, maybe two at the toe of the slope, then back up the bank, carrying the mower just enough to keep it from weaving back and forth, but yet, enough weight on the tractor for traction, plus the fact it appears it has front wheel assist. Then drop the mower, and mow coming back down the bank. But here again, that would be in ideal conditions, so as not to slide the wheels on wet grass.

Can't you make a couple of passes at the top, then just drive up while mowing, make your turn at the top, then mow back down? You might have to take the bucket off so that you can turn closer to the top of the slope

If the grass wet even in 4WD looks like good chance of spin.
Maybe little weight in front bucket might help also in 4WD.

NO you can't get up to the top except by going up the side hill shown.......and the top section that is flat is only four feet wide maybe..........that is why even a MMM would not be feasible , I doubt I can get BX Kubota tractor up there to turn around without dangerous roll position, so my compromise is to back up as far as I can with a finish mower , I figure that will reach to almost top ideally , the top I would do with weed wacker (it is dry up there grass grows slow at top anyway).
I think DJ54 has the idea what I am attempting if I purchase one. Yes is does have 4 wd and yes I only cut this when dry out (even the husky just spin son the wet grass and can't get up unless it is dry.

So my main concern is will a three point hitch articulate that number of degrees (even if i start cutting on downward pass only , by backing up wih it lifted , then drop when i get as far as tractor gets me up, If it did work it would only be four passes of five foot cutter, so backing up only four times .

Unless you need to lift the finish mower do you even need the top link? With no top link you are only limited by the PTO u-joints and hard parts hitting the tractor. Other problem is 3pt arms & stabilizers bend/break easier while pushing Vs pulling.

If you can reverse your kabota up the slope you should be able to push a finish mower up there. You would need to have the top link as slack as possible (or disconnected) so the mower can follow the contours of the ground. I would be just a little cautious about disconnecting the top link. I regularly do the same on my front lawn using a 5' Sicma finish mower.

Are you asking if the tractor on the trailer wil be able to negotiate the hill at the house? I have a similar hill similarly located at the back of the house, but fortunately have a bit of a plateu to bugger around on up top. Most 4wd compacts I tried had no problem going down the hill in a controlled manner, so I would just keep driving around, going up a less steep ascent from the side. Backing up is going to make a mess and if the mower is 3PH mounted and raised could be dangerous. Belly mount would be much better. I say a mess, on account of the tractive effort required even in 4WD with turfs. Then there is the issue of scalping at the top.

For years, I used a walk behind Gravely finishing mower and actually did it sideways (The Gravely had Duals) Nothing I have used before or after did as nice a job.

I mow something similar with a 72" RFM on my Kioti DK45. No issues with the 3pt, just put it in low, 4 wd, and it goes right up, backing up. I dont have a pic handy, and cant get to the bottom of the hill to take one as theres 3 feet of snow in the field. Maybe I can get on the sled this weekend and get one for ya.
