I have a separate lever to open and close my grapple. Is there a standard for which way I should hook it up. If I push the lever down should it open or close?

Whichever way works the best for you. Doesn't matter.

I have the electric toggle switch on the end of my FEL stick. I prefer the "up" button to open the grapple.

I always try and consider the axis of the device and it's direction of rotation and make the lever or switch pivot point similar. I am not the worlds best machine operator, but hate looking like a complete newbe by "first" operating something in a wrong direction and then the other way! lol So at least with my "system" of sorts, this doesn't happen . . . that often!

My grapple is operated through two 1/2 inch ag couplers on the front of the tractor plumed into one set of rear remotes. I keep the remotes hooked up so that the lever that operates that set of remotes pulls back to open the grapple and is pushed forward to close it.

If I'm sloppy when I unhook and then re-attach the grapple, I'll get the couplers reversed and it drives me nuts. I never leave it that way. I get all verklempt if I do.

I use a third lever for my grapple also. I plumbed mine to mimic the direction of travel I see when operating the grapple, i.e., Pull the lever toward me, the jaw opens and pivots toward me. Push forward, the jaw moves forward and closes.

No right or wrong way. Do what feels intuitive to you.
