Heavy Duty Box Blades

Hello again,

I am looking for a heavy duty box blade. I have a quote for two Gannon 65" wide industrial scrapers, H-120 at 830pounds for about $1400 and a HD-115 high back scraper at 880 pounds for about 75 bucks more. So far, I only know about Woods/Gannon having the "big-boy" versions. I know the Gannons are nice tools, but who else makes equivalent ones? Web link information is very helpful. I will be renovating about 3 miles of logging roads that have degraded into rock filled rutted rooted ankle busters. (The assumption is that a box blade is the tool of choice.) Soil is heavy clay with rocks from the last glacier that vary in size from toss-ers to VW bug size. Most commonly in the bread basket size or smaller.

Take a look at Landpride's box scrapers - they might work for you. I don't have one of their box scrapers, but I do have their scarifier (SF2566) and a small landscape rake (LR15-60) - they seem to be very heavy duty, nothing wimpy about 'em. And, every one else I've talked to who owns a Landpride agrees they're pretty strong. HTH

Is the Woods 5' rotary cutter you're buying a new product? I can't find it on their web site?

About 2 years ago, I was ready to order a Woods 106 HD cutter for about $1800, but was talked out of it because my MF135 wouldn't handle it.

With about 27 PTO hp, you may end up having the same problem. (I was given the opportunity to try it out before the purchase)

The cutter spec's you listed are very impressive for a 5'. The Great-great grand-kids would still enjoy it. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

John, I just purchased a 72" hydraulic ripper boc scrapper made by Gearmore, a manufacturer of various tractor implements. While I did not get the heaviest one they make (mine is 900lbs) it was cheaper then the Gannon by quite a bit. It is similar to the Gannon, and my guess is just as rugged. The Gannon boxs are probably the best ones I have ever used and the ones Industrial tractors around the rental yards here have. After using my new Gearmore, I would have no reservations about recomending it to others, it is strudy and well built. Rat...

Here is a picture of a Woods/Gannon HD4272HB Scraper with hydraulic rippers. The hydraulic controls are mounted to the fender. I have had very good luck with it, but it is overkill for most compact tractor applications. This model has both cat1 and Cat 2 3PH pins.

HD - Heavy Duty
42- means 4x2 (what ever that means)
72- 72" wide
HB - High Back

It weighs about 1100lb.

Check out the Monroe Tufline equipment http://www.monroetufline.com/. They make good equipment. Be sure to compare the weight, capacity, and number of scarifier shanks for units of the same width. Hydraulics are available. Have you considered a grader blade for your road work instead of a box blade? 3 miles of road is a lot to maintain and a hydraulic grader blade may work better than a box blade since it can easily be tilted and angled with the hydraulics. They are available with hydraulics also. I have a Tufline box blade and grader blade, neither one is hydraulic, and I am well satisfied with them. Check out their web site and email them concerning a dealer in your area. They are nice people and I have not heard of any complaints from anyone that has their equipment.

I have been looking at new box blades. I have been trying to choose between a low back like I have now or a high back. Do you feel that the high back is worth the difference in price compared to the regular back?
