Bought a Armstrong HD2020 Disc today and really like how it works compared to my older 6' disk. The old one weighs 450 pounds and this New Armstrong weighs 1050 pounds and is much better built. I did not notice until I arrived home with the unit that it has sealed bearings. I've never had a implement without grease nipples. Will this be a problem later on? thanks...

Keep gangs tight, keep an eye on brearing, and when they do go out you can replace with greasable ones.

Granted, my disc has not seen excessive use (maybe not even normal use), but it has sealed bearings and is 40 years old.

Good to hear the bearings have done so well. I'll be using this unit twice a year on a mature 8 acre Pecan Orchard mostly to loosen the upper soil that has been compacted over the years. Really light work so these should last well into the next owner. Soil is Brazos River bottom loam and very easy to work.

Not sure if it would be possible or practical but maybe put a slight smear of grease over each bearing at the end of each season or use, to try and stop the water from entering the bearing during idle times. Water can penetrate almost anything over time. I can suggest this myself, but would probably never remember or feel like doing it at the opportune time.

If you are concerned about the amount of grease still in the bearing and can access the bearing fairly easily, take a eyeglass screwdriver and pop the seal off, repack a little grease and pop the seal back on. I often do this with new bearings because I've had bearings go out prematurely only to find out it had little to no grease from the factory. I always say it must have been a Monday when this bearing was manufactured. LOL

I just bought a Land Pride disc with sealed bearings. Should only use it one time per year on 6 acres. I was hoping it would be good for the rest of my life. (52 years old) Am I dreaming?

Are they ball bearings? I always thought discs had plain metal bearings.

As long as the bearings are from a high quality manufacturer they will be fine. Dirt is the enemy of bearings of this type so IMO I would rather have a sealed unit than one you need to grease. Steve's idea of putting grease over the seals when not in use is a great idea.
