Well, Im still new to this so bear with me. I have a Land Pride 5ft. Bush hog and I cut my hay field with it. I don't have the equipment for baling myself and I haven't found anyone who will bale it and give me a cut for the hay, so I cut it.

I need help setting the height on my bush hog. It's a rear discharge and I had a problem with bogging it down with too much grass, so I lowered my wheel a notch and even picked up the front so as to cut semi level. Now I can mow over ground which I have mown before with no problem, and I am now scalping the ground. At first I thought it was ant mounds, but I now realize it was simply the ground. Any tips on cutting more efficiently will be appreciated.

The front should be a little lower than the rear for best cutting. Then set the height by adjusting the tail wheel and the 3-pt to achieve the desired height while maintaining the front low attitude. If the amount of cut material is more than the cutter can eject (as it too tall) raise the cutter until it can handle the material. You may have to cut twice to achieve your desired result.

If it's scalping just on one side, you adjust the lift arm (on my two tractors, it's the right one that's been adjustable with a wrench) until both sides are the same height. Measure on a level spot on the pavement or in your garage.
