Rear Blade or Box Scraper

The 3pt blade has sat in the same place for 20 years at our farm. Its only good if you need to add some frustration to your life.

The blade will not fail, your FEL arms will fail. FEL arms are not designed to push, they are designed to lift.

Blades have to be chassis mounted or 3-Pt. mounted.

FEL arms are definitely designed to push as much as they are to lift, as that's how you load stuff... you have to push into the pile, then lift. They're not designed, per se, with ground engaging attachments in mind... and definitely for not a large-scale heavy-duty project like this.

The box blade is the best option and a 8' blade on a 80hp tractor will not be HP-limited.

Another pricey option would be a mid-mount grader blade, I see some (6-way) for sale on Craigslist locally for not too much money. This has more of a "dozer" effect and would be great combined with a box blade.

At the end of the day, it sounds like it'd be a lot of work, and no work at all for renting a small dozer for a few days... at least to complete the majority.

Pushing into a pile of loose material is a whole different story from peeling open rocky earth. If you make a habit of digging in undisturbed harsh soil with a loader it's just a matter of time before something breaks, ask me how I know.

If loaders were meant to move earth they wouldn't have bothered building dozers or hoes, the loader has a larger bucket and would be far more efficient if it were feasible.

Used Rollover Box Blade listed in GA

Not to be a thread-jacker, but I saw this while looking for a used rake:

http://www.gon.com/marketplace/listings/108839/rollover_blade

The scraper blades appear to have been pretty well beat to crud, but not only would that be a huge bargaining chip, but they are usually reversible, so if they haven't already been reversed [something I have not seen a lot of people needing to do] you would already have new edges to use...

I have a Gannon Earthcavator, and know from my experience that the main body and mechanisms on rollover box blades are pretty stoutly made, so it's probably a great deal at the listed price anyway...

Probably best for someone a lot closer to GA than me ;-)

My 3pt rear blade is one of my most used implements. A lot of it has to do with, well a lot of different things. ;)

Hmmm, yeah... I can see how that particular blade could be VERY useful. I'm betting it has a few options the older unit is missing.

When my tractor grows up I'm gonna get one for it

Depends on your tractor. My B21 couldn't care less if it is digging or lifting. Hang a tooth bar on it and it will dig to China and back and then ask for more.

Love your spirit. I also have put a whooping on my BX digging with my PTB and she asks for more too!
