Am looking for any ideas on making or purchasing an implement to cut stumps at ground level. I have a Kubota L3301 so I'm hp restricted. I will be using it on pine trees up to about 24''. Turbo Saw may work. Thought about transforming old bush hog w/buzz saw blade. Would prefer to buy ready made. Thanks for any help.

I recommend renting a stump grinder. You can rent a self contained unit with all hydraulic controls for under $400 a day.

agreed! you will spend way more than $400 to make something hydraulically powered to do what you are wanting.

Thanks for the replies. I wish someone would make the Turbo Saw in a slightly smaller version for the smaller tractors. But for now it looks like I'll be renting a stump grinder or possibly looking for a used one. Thanks again.

Don't sound so depressed, I never used a stump grinder, but it sure looks like a load of fun!

So true Oldnslo. They won't let us have the fun stuff like c4 or primer cord. That would do the trick.

How many stumps do you have to cut?
Are your stumps in rocky soil?
We do have a stump saw and are in east texas.
Would be a shame if you were my neighbor.
Of course east texas may be larger than some states.
Send me a private message if you like.

I purchased a turbosaw about 2 years ago and have used it on a 30 HP pto John Deere 3038e. It is a load for the tractor and strains the tractor getting the saw up to speed. It cuts trees up to telephone pole size easily. I do not have rear hydro so I cannot use the grapple. If a larger tree leans towards the tractor it will bind the blade and stall the tractor. I have cut about 500+ eastern red cedar. Sizes from 1/2" to about 20" stumps. On level ground you can cut the tree at or slightly below ground level. I have not rotated the teeth yet, but about 1/2 of them are chipped by hitting I believe metal in fence lines. (a couple of electric fence posts, imbedded barb wire and woven wire, and a couple pieces of scrap metal.) I get hit by wood chips when cutting trees, and the ROP has saved me from a couple of trees that fell on the tractor. I found it safer to cut larger trees with a chainsaw at 1-2' above ground and cut the stump with the turbo saw.

Actually right now I have removed standing stumps w/chainsaw & ax. I know I will have many trees to cut in the future and do not want to go the chainsaw/ax route anymore. I have good ole red clay w/few rocks. I am south of Henderson. My tractor has only 28hp at the pto.
